Previously in Cyberpunk 2077: Oriona was working hard jobs trying to make some money but pissed off the wrong people. Now Teresa wants to know who killed her daughter and is willing to slice some throats to figure it out.
THE DANGERS OF REVENGE
Cyberpunk 2077: You Have My Word #2 starts with a decision. A decision from Teresa to go back to Night City to figure out what happened to her daughter, Oriona. Partnering with Alina, Oriona’s friend, Teresa steals a car and looks for clues. She goes after Kyle and ambushes him in a locker room shower. Unfortunately, Kyle has had so many upgrades that her knife is unable to pierce his skin. He then punches her so hard it dislocates her jaw.
Teresa goes to an old friend and discusses getting some upgrades. But she doesn’t have the time or the money to completely modify her body. She then opts to no longer rely on her knife but on a big gun. She finds Kyle riding his motorcycle out of town and ambushes him in a hotel. Taking out his leg with her new weapon, she questions him about what he knows about Oriona. Once she gets what she wanted, she blasted him in the head.
THE BIGGER GUN
There is this interesting idea in Cyberpunk 2077: You Have My Word #2 about Teresa’s age and old experiences. She had to transition from a knife to a gun to deal with different technology of the time period. This moment symbolized to me that she was willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. I don’t know why, but that meant a lot to me. This idea that she was willing to change her old body completely and forgo her normal skill set show she is willing to do whatever it takes to avenge her daughter. Maybe it resonates with the parental part of my mind or maybe it is something else. But I am now in Teresa’s corner completely. I want her to get her revenge and figure out what happened. And hopefully she will not destroy her body to much along the way.
BOTTOM LINE: SOLID WRITING
I really enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077: You Have My Word #2 but I find myself kind of disappointed by the art style. I don’t know why, but nothing really gripped me. Regardless, this is solid writing with some great ideas. 3.5 out of 5 for me and looking forward to the next issue.
