He-Man Coming to Your TV – Did You Hear? Week of Friday, May 21st, 2021

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonMay 21, 20213 Mins Read

Did You Hear? is a weekly examination of headlines in the entertainment industry and a take on what they could mean for the future of the industry and (often), the little geeky bubble that we occupy!

    He-Man Sneak Peek

Variety has pulled back the curtain on the latest reboot in the He-Man ouevre – Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The best news to come our of this?

    The release date!

Make sure you are paid up on your Netflix subscription before June 23, 2021 in order to behold Kevin Smith’s adventure into Eternia.

So much of this show has been possible because of the love and affection for this world at every level of production and the fandom surrounding this franchise. So many of us were touched by these stories and these characters early in our lives and were so happy to come back to Eternia. But even if you’ve never watched a single episode of the show or don’t know this universe at all, you can jump right into the story. It’s a really classic, universal action-adventure epic about growth, discovery, magic, and power. This series explores destiny in a fresh way. There’s a lot of reconciling with secrets, betrayal, trust, acceptance, love, and ultimately, loss.

    said Smith.

It’s also worth noting this series “picks up where the original series left off in 1985.”

Smith is joined by his Fatman Beyond co-host Marc Bernardin, Tim Sheridan, Eric Carrasco, and Diya Mishra. Will you be streaming next month?

    What About Dune, tho?

Spoilerites, I didn’t want to write about the Warner Bros and Discovery merger because every time this happens a plethora of nice people lose their jobs. It’s a bummer. Instead the focus almost immediately shifted to the question of whether or not movies would still be coming direct to streaming or not?

Deadline was quick on the drop letting us know that Dune would, indeed, still be making a simultaneous debut on Warner Bros proprietary streaming service this coming October.

    Per Deadline:

Addressing the deviation in release plan, Warner Bros distribution chief Jeff Goldstein said there was “no change” to the October 1 date for Dune. The film, like the rest of the slate, will open in theaters the same day it arrives on HBO Max, he said.

This flash panic does ignite the question of how long studios are going to hold to their same-day-same-time streaming release and whether or not with businesses slowly opening audiences are going to have to make the trek back into remaining cinemas as more and more movies begin to trickle out.

Which film will get your back in theatres? Is it Dune? Shang-Chi? I want to know!

Knives Out 2 Expands its Cast – Again!

On Tuesday The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that in addition to Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2 has added Hamilton and One Night in Miami star Leslie Odom Jr. to the cast.

Like the aforementioned Masters of the Universe relaunch, the continuing chapters in Knives Out brings Daniel Craig’s inspector to streaming giant Netflix.

With Craig about to step away from his tenure in the James Bond franchise the casting team appears to be populating their next mystery with genre stars. Odom’s casting was met with fevered glee on social media.
