Previously in X of Swords: Arrako is coming to destroy Krakoa and the mutant nation must come to the island’s defense. However, a prophecy comes together saying that the conflict must be resolved between ten champions on both sides for the fate of the world. Polaris recited a prophecy and now the Krakoa nation scrambles to make sure the swords get into their champions hands!

    A HEIST FOR THE WORLD

Storm is chosen as one of the champions to fight in the event and heads to Wakanda to get the Skybreaker; an ancient artifact of cultural importance. Storm, who was once Queen of Wakanda, arrives and is meeting with open arms. However, the request is too much for Shuri and the Queen Mother and they ask Storm to wait for T’Challa’s return before they make their decision. If Storm takes the sword, there will be riots in the streets of Wakanda. Later that night, Storm decided that the fate of the world was more important than waiting for Black Panther and resolved to steal it. She knows the security of Wakanda and is easily able to fight her way to the sword. However, Shuri is there to try and stop her. Despite Shuri’s plea, Storm knocks her out and steals the sword. As she leaves, T’Challa returns home and decides to let Storm go despite the consequences. After Storm leaves, he destroys the Krakoa portal and Storm takes her place among the other champions.

    DESPERATE MEASURES

The X-Men know that the end of the world is nearby and Storm can feel the pressure. And in a way, she buckles and destroys relationships with her friends. How relatable is that? I have often been so thrown in my work and finances that I push away the people I love. I was trying to figure out what this may foreshadow and I wonder if they are foreshadowing Storm’s death. Storm is moving forward and not caring about the consequences because perhaps she is viewing her own mortality. This is interesting because in a previous event, she was just cured of a machine virus that would have killed her! Which sounds like a contradiction of themes. I’m interested to see how it all wraps up and observing Storm’s character arc in the X-Men nation.

    BOTTOM LINE: ANOTHER GOOD CHAPTER

Storm is such a powerful mutant who acquired a sword that amplifies her abilities. While I don’t view her as a sword user, I’m interested in seeing how this weapon plays a part of her mutant ability. We now have three champions. Magik, Wolverine, and Storm are only beginning but there are seven more still to come! I’m interested in seeing this tournament roster fill out. With a good art selection, decent writing, and my overall excitement of the story; this comic gets 4 out of 5 stars from me!
