If you know my year of birth (1970, if you’re concerned), you can probably figure out that much of my formative years was spent in the 80s.  I remember the debut of MTV, that awesome ‘Transformers’ cartoon, even getting yelled at in school because we wouldn’t stop gushing over ‘Ghostbusters.’  Even though I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the decade, though, my personal decade aesthetic is very much early 90s, somewhere between Eric Draven and Ethan Hawke in ‘Reality Bites’, with slightly better hair, or perhaps J.D. from ‘Heathers’, leading to today’s grunge-laden query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced “YUNG-blud”) figures that no one will know what the heck I’m talking about today, but it’s worth it for an interesting MS-QOTD, asking: What time period constitutes your favorite decade aesthetic?

Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. I can basically just copy/paste the preface to this question as my answer. (Except I was born in ’79) Love the 80’s, personally I’m more 90’s.
