Major Spoilers Question of the Day: In Reruns Edition

    Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonAugust 10, 2020Updated:August 10, 20203 Comments1 Min Read

For at least the last couple of years, my Sunday writing for Major Spoilers has been done to the sounds of Gilligan’s Island.  Now, sadly, MeTV has discontinued the Sunday ‘Three Hour Tour’ block, leaving me adrift and lost in a sea of lesser reruns.  Given that there are 99 episodes of the show, at an average of six per week, I probably saw the entire run of the show five times over, I’d still watch the castaways right now, if I could.  (Especially the one where Boris Balinkoff switches their minds, leading to Dawn Wells playing The Professor and Alan Hale as Mrs. Howell.)  Alas, I cannot, but at least it leads to today’s have-to-make-the-best-of-things query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) can still quote many ‘Gilligan’ episodes chapter and verse, thanks to being raised by a 21-inch Magnavox TV, asking: What program could you most easily binge in long blocks in reruns?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

The Simpsons – mainly just cuz there’s so many episodes, of which I’ve seen only maybe like 2 in 10.

That’s a good one. I’m not really a Simpsons guy, but every once in a while I want to sit and watch a few in a row.
