IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
GHOSTED IN LA #10
Writer: Sina Grace
Artist: Sina Grace
Publisher: Boom Entertainment, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Daphne was just getting used to living with ghosts, but when a mysterious door in the basement flies open, Rycroft Manor is overwhelmed with even more strange phenomena than anyone knows how to deal with. And even worse, Daphne’s former roommate Michelle has some ideas about how to handle a haunting… and it doesn’t involve going gently into that good light.
INGRID: This is not your standard ghost story. We’ve settled into the premise of ghosts living in Rycroft Manor, and Daphne making friends with them as she struggles with her first year at college and away from home. Now there’s something new and sinister afoot, and Michelle is being drawn into it all. Top it off with great characters and lovely art, and I am looking forward to this.
LUDOCRATS #1
Writer: Keiron Gillen/Jim Rossignol
Artist: Tamra Bonvillain
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Ludocrat! The ludicrous aristocrat! A collision of the ornate fantasy of Dune and an M-rated Asterix & Obelix! Baron Otto Von Hades and Professor Hades Zero-K are here, and they’re going to save us all have a nice time.
CHRISTOPHER: This is probably the first time in my comic book reading that I am picking up a title for the creative team over the title. Kieron’s work on DIE made me love her ideas and will pick up this first issue for that reason alone.
MATTHEW: I’m not sure what to expect from this book, but the title and the creative team have me interested. Check it out with Stephen and I on this week’s Dueling Review!
SAVAGE DRAGON #248
Writer: Erik Larsen
Artist: Erik Larsen
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Malcolm Dragon’s greatest foes assemble in an attempt to eliminate him once and for all!
MATTHEW: I sometimes mock Savage Dragon because of its creator’s peccadillos, but it’s a consistently good, occasionally pretty great book, and the build up to an anniversary issue is always full of creative, crazy stuff.
STAR WARS ADVENTURES CLONE WARS #1 (OF 5)
Writer: Michael Moreci
Artist: Arianna Florean and Derek Charm
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: This exciting weekly series explores a time of great upheaval in the galaxy-the Clone Wars! While Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and other Jedi Knights confront Count Dooku, two Republic squadrons must hold their position against an encroaching droid army of the Separatists. Pinned down for the duration, Commander Cody, Captain Rex, and other clones swap war stories that feature your favorite characters from The Clone Wars animated series, such as Padmé Amidala, General Grievous, and many more!
CHRISTOPHER: I have a soft spot for this cartoon. Even though I am wary of any comic book adaptations, I will pick this up and relive the nostalgia.
SUPERMAN SMASHES THE KLAN TP
Writer: Gene Luen Yang
Artist: Gurihiru
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $16.99
SOLICITATION: The year is 1946, and the Lee family has moved from Chinatown to Downtown Metropolis. While Dr. Lee is eager to begin his new position at the Metropolis Health Department, his two kids, Roberta and Tommy, are more excited about being closer to the famous superhero Superman!
MATTHEW: I was really excited about issue #1 of this book, but real life caused me to miss #2 & #3. I’m still ready to put down my money and recommend that you do, too.
STEPHEN: Hands down this is the must buy book of the week. I’ve listed to the radio play a number of times, and enjoyed the adaptations Yang and Gurihiru made here.
ROBOT OVERLORD: What ends on hope does not end at all.
