Major Spoilers Question of the Day: The Best Dinosaur Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonMarch 3, 20205 Comments1 Min Read

In the third grade, my woefully under-prepared grade school’s entire “gifted” program consisted of “Here, go read something you’re interested in”, which meant I spent many a free reading period perusing whatever books I could get my hands on, with my favorites involving custom cars and dinosaurs.  This was so long ago that Apatosaurus was still wearing the wrong head and being called “Brontosaurus”, and nobody had any feathers yet.)  In those dark, pre-Jurassic Park days, the thunder lizards were mostly seen in cartoons, turning over Fred’s sedan with their massive barbecued remains, so when I said that my favorite dinosaur was the Triceratops, people just looked at me blankly.  That no-sell was good practice, I found, for my later work on the MSP, and it leads us to today’s cretaceous query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) reminds Faithful Spoilerites to make sure your choice is actually a dinosaur or be prepared to face the wrath of Rodrigo, who knows dinosaurs like I know Ultra Boy cameos, asking: Which dinosaur is the BEST dinosaur?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

I always had a soft spot for Stegosaurus. Probably because it was the first Zoids toy I got as a kid.

Oh my god… I remember buying Zoids. They were SO COOL!

You can still get them from Japan, you know.. ;)

Brontosaurus. It was the ubiquitous dinosaur when I was growing up. It was in paintings, a Disney ride and a Twilight Zone episode.
