The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

Writer: Simon Spurrier
Artist: Chris Wildgoose
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Acclaimed writer Simon Spurrier (John Constantine Hellblazer, Coda) and artist Chris Wildgoose (Batgirl, Batman: Nightwalker) present a subversive coming-of-age story about having all the power to change the world but the unready hands to truly wield it. Three teenagers, each an outcast in their own way, stumble upon an unearthly entity as it’s born. As they bond over this shared secret and the creature’s incredible abilities, it becomes clear to the teenagers that their cute little pet is a super-predator in the making – and it’s in need of prey. Guided by the best intentions at first, the teens’ decisions soon become corrupted by adolescent desires, small town jealousies, and internal rivalries, sending them into a catastrophic spiral of their own making.

CHRISTOPHER: New series coming out of a great writer and artist. I love coming-of-age stories because your protagonist are malleable to be different by the end of a story. Looking forward to this interpretation of the sub-genre.

Writer: Matt Hawkins
Artist: Colleen Doran
Publisher: Image Comics, Inc./Top Cow Productions, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Within three weeks, hundreds of millions of healthy people worldwide contract various forms of aggressive cancer, and the proliferation, seemingly a viral outbreak, stumps the best scientific minds available. But after a leading cancer researcher loses his wife and watches his nine-year-old daughter begin to succumb to the same illness, he must race against the clock to end a global conspiracy that could propel the world straight into WWIII…or worse.

INGRID: This is a top-notch medical thriller that turns a frightening category of disease – cancer – into a serious pandemic. In desperation, researcher Jack Davidson starts letting ethics fall to the wayside. There’s a lot of food for thought in this one along with the suspense about what this could mean for the human race.

Writer: Justin Jordan
Artist: Rebekah Issacs
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $16.99
SOLICITATION: Deep within the untamed continent of Madaras, a darkness builds that must be stopped at all costs. To prevent the end of this new world, the Imperials assemble six of their most despicable prisoners-a turncoat, a skin eater, a sorcerer, his bodyguard, a serial killer, and the Devil’s Son. They are Hell’s Half-Dozen.

JUSTIN JORDAN (LUTHER STRODE) and REBEKAH ISAACS (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) create a grim fantasy comic for a post-Game of Thrones world.

CHRISTOPHER: Interesting series that unties a suicide squad with grim epic fantasy and I’m on board with it. I haven’t got all the issues but this for sure on my reading list this week.

Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Gianis Milonogiannis
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: With enemies on all sides, Hana and Kenichi struggle to protect the island and themselves. But the Shogun has a more sinister plan brewing, and for anyone to survive this fight, Kenichi will need to rally the island’s forces, and Hana will have to prove to those loyal to the Shogun that his way of life is not worth fighting for.

INGRID: Ronin Island is a terrific book, and its tale of people learning to get along and trust one another despite their differences is so important in this day and age. Hana and Kenichi have been through a lot and are building their own coalition of people as they try to fight off the Shogun’s forces – and his monsters!

Writer: Ben Percy
Artist: Oscar Bazaldua
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
Domino’s luck seems to be changing… Can she find the source of her misfortune before it costs lives all over the world? And has Colossus healed enough to help her… or even himself?
Parental Advisory

CHRISTOPHER: Domino has been having an interesting arc in the X-Force title and it looks like she is going to continue to jump back into the limelight. I’m compelled by her story and then we can see some of the mental stress that has happened to Colossus. What themes are we going to explore here? I don’t know but I’m excited.
