IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

ETHER: THE DISAPPEARANCE OF VILET BELL #5
    Writer: Matt Kindt
    Artist: David Rubin
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Matt Kindt! David Rubín! In this explosive conclusion, interdimensional detective Boone Dias comes face-to-face with the diabolical intelligence behind all his hardships. But this time he must confront his own failings in order to succeed against an old enemy and save Ether.

INGRID: This has been such a trippy story. Boone Dias is the sort of main character who is not all that likeable. He has spent his life frivolously, but now he’s had loss, he’s had some time to think, and just maybe he realizes he is not perfect. Has he learned enough to really make a difference in Ether?

    FOLKLORDS #3 (OF 5)
    Writer: Matt Kindt
    Artist: Matt Smith
    Publisher: BOOM! Studios
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Outside of the village, life is no fairy tale-and Ansel has learned this the hard way. Betrayed by one of his traveling companions, Ansel finds himself at the mercy of Hanz and Greta. He needs to escape before the worst happens, but the siblings have a story for him, and the truth is more gruesome than he could have imagined.

CHRISTOPHER: I think the storytelling techniques are incredibly unique. I haven’t established a full opinion on if I like it but it is still interesting to read from a storytelling perspective.

STEPHEN: Who is the real monster in Folklords #3? Well, you’re gonna have to read the issue to find out, but the moral of “You aren’t define by what other people call you” is in full effect here.

    GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1
    Writer: Al Ewing
    Artist: Juan Cabal
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Once, they were a team of misfits. Now they’re a family, and they’ve earned their peace. But the universe is not a peaceful place — and it’s only getting worse. The Great Empires are in turmoil. The rule of law is dead. And amidst the chaos, the Gods of Olympus have returned — harbingers of a new age of war, reborn to burn their mark on the stars themselves. Someone has to guard the galaxy – but who will accept the mission? And will they survive it? Al Ewing (IMMORTAL HULK) and Juann Cabal (FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN) bring you in on the ground floor of a whole Marvel Universe of action and suspense!

CHRISTOPHER: I was never terribly into the Guardians of the Galaxy. I think overall, I prefer stories that are based on earth. However, I’ve been slowly but surely getting into more science fiction stories and this might be the issue to get me acquainted with the cosmic marvel world.

    GHOSTBUSTERS YEAR ONE #1
    Writer: Erik Burnham
    Artist: Dan Schoening
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In anticipation of the new Ghostbusters feature film coming to theaters Summer 2020, we look back at the Boys in Grey’s first year on the job, showcasing never before seen adventures! After defeating Gozer and becoming heroes in the city, county, and state of New York, a publisher has decided to cash in with a biography of the Boys in Grey and sends a writer to interview them all for background. He starts with Winston Zeddemore, the first ‘buster hired into the supernatural start-up. Winston relates the story of his very first bust, so we can finally know what kind of… ahem, stuff he’s seen that’ll will turn you white!

MATTHEW: I’m a sucker for lost adventures and missing tales and was a teenager in 1984, so this seems right up my alley.

HEIST OR HOW TO STEAL A PLANET #3
    Writer: Paul Tobin
    Artist: Arjuna Susini
    Publisher: Vault Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Glane and the gang shift the heist into high gear, but there’s a few bumps along the road—like a highly-trained bird, some even higher-trained assassins, and a group of Glane lookalikes with murder on their minds. Luckily, Glane has a master plan that involves… two drops of red ink? Huh? How’s THAT going to work?

INGRID: If you’re looking for clever, interesting comics, check out Vault – they keep coming out with great books. Heist, or How to Steal a Planet is one of these – big, bombastic, suspenseful and just a little weird. You know from the title that this is probably the biggest heist you’ll ever see pulled off, and I cannot wait!

    MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #47
    Writer: Ryan Parrott
    Artist: Daniele Di Nicuolo
    Publisher: BOOM! Studios
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: After a shocking betrayal, the Omega Rangers are forced to return to earth-and to reveal their identities to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But can either team of Power Rangers survive the truth?

MATTHEW: There are a whole lot of shocking betrayals in Power Rangers over the last couple of years, but I’m kind of interesting in seeing how Tommy and his team deal with the reveal of Jason and his.

    TRIAGE #5 (OF 5)
    Writer: Phillip Sevy
    Artist: Phillip Sevy
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: This is it. The moment we’ve been building to since the beginning is here. The finale of this exhilarating miniseries has arrived. Who will live? Who will die? How will it all end? Find out here.

CHRISTOPHER: This series has had an incredible run so far. Telling an amazing story and cultivating a dynamic and believable personality in all the main characters. I’m sad to see this miniseries ends but excited to finish it.

    WONDER WOMAN #750
Writer: Vita Ayala, Marguerite Bennett, Kami Garcia, Dean Hale, Jeff Loveness, Steve Orlando, Greg Rucka, Gail Simone, Mariko Tamaki, Various
Artist: Elena Casagrande, Colleen Doran, Jesus Merino, Gabriel Picolo, Others
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $9.99
SOLICITATION: An all-star 96-page celebration of the Amazon Princess by longtime favorites and acclaimed new voices! In the lead story, Wonder Woman’s epic “Year of the Villain” battle comes to a close, leading the way to new challenges ahead. Additionally, this oversized gem tells tales from Diana’s past, present and future by some of the greatest storytellers in the business- including Colleen Doran, Mariko Tamaki, the Teen Titans: Raven team of writer Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo, and legendary Wonder Woman creators returning to the character, including Gail Simone and Greg Rucka!

MATTHEW: Looks like the next phase of the DC Universe is upon us, with Wonder Woman at the forefront. I’m not sure where it’s all going, but I’m really interested in getting a look at 5G, as well as the Diana celebrations.

STEPHEN: A very solid issue, and with the big end reveal, and the implications for what is coming next, I think DC fans will want to add this to their collection so they can point to the moment and say, “Here is when…”

ROBOT OVERLORD: 5G IS COMING AND IT IS NOT JUST A REPLACEMENT FOR LTE, IT IS A WAY OF LIFE! Oh… also, what comics are you reading this week?
