Major Spoilers Question of the Day: CloudCuckooLander Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonNovember 9, 20192 Comments1 Min Read

As someone who enjoys the adventures of The Tick, I can tell you it’s a lot of fun reading about made-up stupid people.  For one thing, characters with a head full of rainbows and Cheez Whiz (known to some nerds as ‘the CloudCuckooLander’) tend to be happier, and if done right, their goofy mindset can brighten a dull day.  With Deadpool’s movies making a skrabillion dollars, it’s hard to argue that there’s great stories that can be told when your main character is a little bit nuts, and the original Dodo Bird cartoons are (in my mind) the best animated short features in the history of the world, leading us to today’s marmalade query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) wants to stress the word “FICTIONAL”, as there are more than enough places for name-calling of real folk online already, asking: Which of the many fictional CloudCuckooLander folk in fiction is the most entertaining big ol’ dorkis in your eyes?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

The first depictions of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (from the 1930s) that were truly ‘looney’.
