Zombieland: Double Tap Trailer is Here
It’s been more than a decade since the original Zombieland hit cinemas at what felt to be the height of pop culture’s obsession with the walking dead. Despite the elapsed time, yesterday the much awaited trailer for Zomebieland: Double Tap dropped:

A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland 2: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
Stars Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games, True Detective), Jesse Eisenberg (Justice League, Now You See Me), Abigail Breslin (Scream Queens, Signs), and Emma Stone (La La Land, Birdman), all reprise their roles from the first movie.
Zombieland: Double Tap continues the current trend of sequels and reboots coming years after the original run on the heels of a fan upswell. The response has been overwhelmingly positive so far! When the movie hits on October 18th we’ll see if this world was worth revisiting after all this time!
Sony Passes $1 Billion with Spider-Man: Far From Home
The latest installment in the Spider-Man franchise has earned a mile marker and entered the $1 billion dollar box office club (internationally; not adjusted for inflation), for Sony Pictures. This is the first installment in the current Spider-Man franchise to do so and only the second Sony movie to cross $1 billion – the first being Skyfall.
It’s a pretty momentous accomplishment for Sony and another feather in the cap of Marvel Studios by association.
Gemini Man Drops a Second Trailer
The same time the new Zombieland trailer dropped, Paramount Pictures released their second trailer for their upcoming Will Smith action movie: Gemini Man:

Speaking to THR during a Press Preview earlier this week director Ang Lee spoke about the challenges in casting Will Smith to play two incarnations of himself at different points in his life:
Will is twice as expensive … the biggest problem is Will is a much better actor today than he was 30 years ago.
Will Smith added:
Ang told me ‘I need to have you act less good,’ and he would show me some of the old performances. … Weta pulled out all of this old footage so I got to see all the tragedies I committed in entertainment. … The VFX team has outdone themselves.
Gemini Man hits cinemas on October 11th. Unlike Zombieland 2, Gemini Man has received mixed reactions to both trailers have been mixed. The studio is likely hoping for the I Am Legend reception, but Gemini Man feels throwback-y to the 1990s – in the same way as the Top Gun trailer.
Speaking of Top Gun …
The full sequel trailer was released last week during San Diego Comic-Con, although it was quickly overshadowed by the ridiculous spectacle that was the Cats trailer and the triumph of the Saturday night Marvel Studios Hall H panel:

Top Gun 2: Maverick, in my opinion, feels wildly out of place even in our current height of nostalgia love. It feels reductive, rather than forward thinking. However, I do think it stands a good chance at box office profit in the wake of Tom Cruise’s stunt-driven evolution in the Mission Impossible franchise.
However impressive the stunts in the Top Gun trailer appears I do, ultimately, find myself asking who this movie in being made for?
Samantha Bee Releases Her “Cats” Audition Tape
In the wake of the aforementioned insane reception to the debut Cats trailer, comedienne Samantha Bee released a parody video of what her audition tape for the mega musical would have looked like:
