Major Spoilers Question Of The Day: What’s In A Shared Name Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonJune 28, 20192 Comments1 Min Read

William Shakespeare once wrote, ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.’   Of course, it might be noted that these were words from a 15-year-old lovesick child with poor impulse control, but there’s truth to be had in the sentiment anyway.  For my part, I was always a smidge jealous that my old pal Otter Disaster shared his name with Batman AND The Hulk (as well as Ashley J. Williams, if you were willing to stretch the point), whereas I only got frickin’ Waverider.  Okay, yes, also Daredevil, but still… WAVERIDER?  Worse still, my friend Tom shared his name with the greatest of all the Power Rangers, half of Commander Riker AND the greatest hero of America’s Best Comics, a grave injustice if there ever was once, but also a lead-in to today’s eponymous query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has one of the most common names in reality, which paradoxically means fewer fictional counterparts, for some reason, asking: What fictional character are you MOST happy to share a name with?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

This is a weird one,but I grew up on The New Warriors, and Speedball is a favorite character to this day, and we are both Robbies.
