    Ever since the man who probably wasn’t John Drake (even the creators differ on this matter) awoke in The Village to be dubbed Number Six, it has been all the rage to have a Number Name.  Usually it’s not exactly a positive thing, but 007 will argue that point with you.  Whether Daredevil’s frenemy Number Nine or Android 21 who searches for Dragon Balls, numerals abound, leading to today’s dehumanizing query…

    The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) wants to know, are those Beagle Boys jeans you’re wearing, asking:  What fictional character (of any provenance) has the coolest Number Name?

    Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

      Number 99 from Get Smart, although that may be more to do with my young self’s reaction to Barbara Feldon.
