IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    ACTION COMICS #1008
    Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
    Artist: Steve Epting
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The superstar creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Steve Epting dig into the DC Universe in this sweeping espionage epic that’s shattering the agencies-and heroes-dedicated to protecting the world! As the D.E.O. falls, only Jimmy Olsen may hold the answers to helping Superman and Lois Lane uncover who’s behind the attacks rocking the DC Universe’s biggest clandestine organizations. And when the Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller makes a shocking discovery, can she help the trio understand the truth before the balance of power shifts to Leviathan forever?

STEPHEN: Say what you want, but BMB’s run on Action Comics has been fantastic! Definitely want to see what happens this week when Jimmy Olsen, KOBRA, and the DEO all get together.

    ALIENS: RESISTANCE #2
    Writer: Brian Wood
    Artist: Robert Carey
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Amanda Ripley and Zula Hendricks make their way to the Weyland-Yutani black site, with the intent to disrupt a xenomorph-based weapons test. Only once they’ve arrived do they realize what is truly at stake, and that they must do whatever it takes to ensure this new technology is never deployed.

RODRIGO: The good thing about this being a sequel to a spinoff is that it doesn’t feel like the characters are “protected” anything could happen to Amanda and Zula (and Davis).

ATOMIC ROBO AND THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA #3
    Writer: Brian Clevinger
    Artist: Scott Wegener
    Publisher: IDW
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Atomic Robo has opened Tesladyne Institute to the next generation of Action Scientists. Vik and Lang make an unscheduled appearance. Bernie’s trapped in an extinct lava tube and probably losing his mind. Foley tries to keep the place from burning down. Fun Fact: Robo’s building a secret robot son using the AI from Hashima Island that almost killed, uh, Earth. Twice. It’s fine!

INGRID: Atomic Robo – for all your two-fisted fun! Now with more robots, new interns, Foley in charge, and SCIENCE! But seriously, Atomic Robo is one of the smartest and most dependably fun books out there. I recommend it highly.

RODRIGO: Ok, so #3 is probably not a good issue to jump back in, but I’ve been meaning to get back into Atomic Robo for a while. So heeeere weeee gooooo!

STEPHEN: What? You’re still not reading Atomic Robo? Harumph… Give this book a read, you’ll thank us all later.

    QUINCREDIBLE #4
    Writer: Rodney Barnes
    Artist: Selena Espiritu
Publisher: The Lion Forge, LLC (Catalyst Prime)
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The danger has inevitably followed Quin home, and he has unintentionally put his parents in harm’s way. Quin teams up with Glow to strategize a way to free those closest to him from jeopardy. But with this much on the line, it’s hard to get any thinking done. Will his smarts be enough to undo his transgressions?

INGRID: Quincredible has become a book I really look forward to. He’s a new, young hero, just figuring out his powers and how to use them. He also has an affectionate family, has normal teenager problems, is really smart, and is truly a compassionate hero. In a time when cynicism is all too frequent, this book shows us optimism and hope.

    SPAWN #294
    Writer: Todd McFarlane
    Artist: Jason Shawn Alexander
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: THE CLOWN TRANSFORMS—into the all-new Clown/Violator! HOLLYWOOD NEWS! Soon to be a major motion picture from Blumhouse Productions, directed by Todd McFarlane, and starring Jamie Foxx as Spawn and Jeremy Renner as Twitch.

RODRIGO: Did they just announce the Spawn movie in the middle of this solicitation? I mean, I’m not knocking it, that sounds cool!
