Apropos of nothing and certainly not driven by any gossip in the entertainment industry, I started thinking about actors who might successfully play Superman in a live-action adaptation, Twenty years ago, I would have said Bruce Campbell, fifteen years ago I would have said Nathan Fillion, and ten years ago I’d have said Chuck from ‘Gossip Girl’. Still, some of the best Supers Mans in my personal opinion are he least likely ones, like Dean Cain’s take from the 1990s or Danny Dark’s perfect vocal take from ‘Superfriends’. Indeed, it’s such an interesting question that I’m prepared to listen to lots of folks making a case for Nathan Fillion as the perfect Superman actor, leading to today’s Kryptonian query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still thinks that a young Elvis Presley might not have been the best Man of Steel, but he’d definitely be the most memorable, asking: What performer of ANY era would have been The Superman Actor for you?

Christopher Reeve. My work here is done.
barring any previously cast actors, i can’t help but wonder what would’ve happened if Cary Grant had been cast in the role. but if Cavill decides to bow out again for real, i’d love to see Brandon Routh get a second chance at the role, especially after his success as The Atom. he’s got a great “aw shucks” occasionally goofy quality to him, which is essential to Superman/Clark.
Not counting ones who actually were cast as Superman, LeBron James as Earth-23 Superman.
Gregory Peck.
Christopher Reeve. My mother and I watched those movies even the bad ones so many times. Telling me that is hope. She’d watch with so much pride.
He’s my vote.
I’m pretty happy with Cavill. Just need to work on the writing. I actually liked Justice League. It was a step in the right direction. People are taking too many course corrections when they should see what happens.
Guy Pearce, fresh out of L.A. Confidential would have been an excellent casting choice.
