A wise cartoon once said it succinctly: “Chicks dig giant robot cars!” That’s rather specific advice, but there’s a grain of truth in there, especially as regards mechanical men of unusual size. When I was young, it was all about the Shogun Warriors, but later generations have had their Megazords, their Megas XLRs and that whole Voltron thing, which I’ve still never seen an entire episode of but somehow know that somebody screams “And I’ll form the head!” Of course, not every giant automaton can be Gokai-Oh, but the question of which is best is a complex one, leading to today’s steam-powered query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) wants to make it clear that a bunch of smaller robots who combine into a bigger one still count, asking: Which giant robot is the greatest of all?

Wow, this one is hard.
Little kid me wants to say Voltron because it was my favorite growing up. Gamer me wants to say BT-7274 from Titanfall 2, and my inner weeb wants to say Gundam Deathscythe or Blitz Gundam. The version of me from my 20’s that assembled my Robotech/Macross collection will also get upset if I don’t mention the Skull One veritech/valkyrie or the SDF-1 Macross itself.
But I think I’m gonna take a sharp left turn and settle on the final form of Gortys from Tales From the Borderlands. A wonderful parody of all those other giant mecha and a great (and adorable) character in her own right.
This is tough. There’s several choices that come to my mind (Warhammer 40K Titans, Macross, Gundam) but I’ll go with Metroplex.
What do you get when you cross Superman with Vin Diesel?
The Iron Giant!
BIG O! SHOWTIME!!!
I’m torn between Leopardon (Spider-Man Takuya Yamashiro’s mecha) and Deka GokaiOh (a combination of my two favorite Sentai in one).
Being a Macross/ Robotech fan, I’ll have to say the SDF. It can do massive amounts of damage the enemy while (mostly) protecting its civilian population.
Daedalus Maneuver, amirite?
