IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

ACTION COMICS #1000 1960S VAR ED
    Writer: Various
    Artist: Various
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $7.99
SOLICITATION: Celebrate 1000 issues of Action Comics with an all-star lineup of top talent as they pay tribute to the comic that started it all! From today’s explosive action to a previously unpublished tale illustrated by the legendary Curt Swan to the Man of Tomorrow’s future-this very special, oversized issue presents the best of the best in Superman stories!

MATTHEW: I’m psyched about the first Big Two American #1000 comic, but I only want the Allred variant where he homages Curt Swan.

STEPHEN: There are a lot of sentimental moments in this issue. If you want to know what Superman is all about, this is the book to read. If someone doesn’t “get” Superman, this is the book you want to give them. It is $7.99, but it is totally worth it.

WAYNE: This book is a massive no-brainer to buy if you love comics! OF COURSE it’s worth picking up, reading and saving! Long live Superman!

    AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #799
    Writer: Dan Slott
    Artist: Stuart Immonen
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: SPIDER-MAN will need to the help of friend and foe alike if he hopes to stop THE GREEN GOBLIN this time! The mystery of the RED GOBLIN is finally revealed, and it’s not going to be pretty for Peter Parker!

STEPHEN: We are almost to the end of Dan Slott’s run, and with a new(?) Goblin trying to kill our favorite hero, I’m definitely picking this issue up (and so should you!)

    BATMAN #45
    Writer: Tom King
    Artist: Sandu Florea
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “THE TRAVELERS” part one! Booster Gold has come to Gotham City, and he’s enlisting Batman and Catwoman to go on a time-traveling mission to rescue…Booster Gold! It seems a younger Booster Gold has gone back in time to kidnap an even younger version of himself, and to rescue his own past, Booster must pursue both of his previous incarnations through Batman’s history to find out what is going on. The start of a new story that will sow the seeds for a whole new epic to come-and also the return of Master Class artist Tony S. Daniel (DAMAGE) to BATMAN!

WAYNE: This storyline ties into the Watchmen one that will be continuing every other month! Looking forward to it!

    The Damned #9THE DAMNED #9
    Writer: Cullen Bunn
    Artist: Brian Hurtt
    Publisher: Oni Press
    Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Before they were cursed, before they were damned, Eddie, Morgan, Sophie, and the Wyrm were just kids with big dreams of striking it rich. But when your plan is to rob a demon-run gambling operation, those dreams can quickly turn to nightmares. Brian Hurtt and Cullen Bunn present a new story from Eddie’s past, one that spells trouble for his future.

STEPHEN: This series is so weird, but if you loved The Sixth Gun, and like the idea of humans fighting demons that walk among us, then The Damned #9 is a book you will want to pick up this week.

    FUTURE QUEST PRESENTS #9
    Writer: Rob Williams
    Artist: Aaron Lopresti
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Be careful what you wish for! Young Dorno of the Herculoids clan wants to make his own way in the world, free of Zandor and Tara, his parents. But when that world is the planet Amzot, and a strange sentient being named Animan wants it for his own, Dorno may grow up too fast!

WAYNE: I keep hearing that this book will end with #12, but I sure hope not! It’s been great fun, and I miss reading that more in my comics each week! I want more Future Quest!

    MAGE: THE HERO DENIED #8
    Writer: Matt Wagner
    Artist: Matt Wagner
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Kevin Matchstick’s obsessive search for a mysterious creature has left his family vulnerable to attack from the Fairy Realms, even as the Umbra Sprite’s bounty on the Pendragon’s head leads to disaster. Faced with the unthinkable, Kevin must fight off devastating despair if his family has any hope to survive.

MATTHEW: It’s the halfway point for a series that has been twenty years in the making, and I can’t stress this enough: YOU GUYS SHOULD BE READING THIS BOOK. It’s that good, and you can also get the previous volumes and not have to suffer for decades like I did…

    TAP DANCE KILLER #1
    Writer: Ted Sikora
    Artist: Nikolaus Harrison
    Publisher: Hero Tomorrow Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Actress Nikki St Clair was the sweetest gal in the city until she was cast in a horror show musical as the Tap Dance Killer. Now, unable to shake the role, this 1920s-esque bizarre mobster assassin is out on the streets dealing damage with a theatrical flair that leaves ’em, quite literally, slain in the isles! This first issue also features the first appearance of a knockout new villain!

    MATTHEW: …wut?

With a solicit like that, how can I say no?
