Are you ready for all-new all-different from Marvel? It looks like the company is ready to take a brand new direction with… everything.

In May 2018, Marvel promises:

  • New Creative Teams
  • New Series
  • New Directions
  • New Beginnings

In a year when it seems like there is a large fan and business backlash to Marvel’s constant relaunchings, this seems… odd to say the least.

The best (worst) part of this announcement? Marvel is doing away with the Marvel Legacy renumbering. That’s right, just as soon as they started renumbering comics (Amazing Spider-Man jumped from #32 to #789), many comics are going to revert to pre-Legacy numbering.

According to IGN, who interviewed Tom Brevoort, everything is going to get new #1 issues.

What is your initial reaction to this news? Does this feel like Marvel is doubling down on all of its mistakes, or do you think they’ve actually learned something and are going to make everything better going forward?

Stop laughing… that was a serious question.

Also, be on the lookout for Marvel’s complete solicitations for May 2018 coming on Thursday.

  1. it’s just a number. i’m all for new stories and new collections for myself. so i say bring on fresh starts ill try some new books i never read before.

  2. I now realize I haven’t been reading Marvel lately. I hope this new start gives me a good reason to come back. I just hope they don’t wash away the newer things to return to the old ones. Seeing Miles and Kamala there gives me hope. Also is that Jessica Jones next to Luke Cage?

Wait, seriously? If the quality of the new stuff is good enough it shouldn’t matter, but right now they’re changing directions more often than a wet dog trying to get dry — and if they’re not careful their readers will be all the water drops flying away.
