Major Spoilers Staff Picks for February 7, 2018 #NCBD

IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #795
    Writer: Dan Slott
    Artist: Mike Hawthorne
    Publisher: Marvel
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?! Spidey pays the Sanctum Sanctorum a visit looking for a consult from the Master of the Mystic arts, Doctor Stephen Strange…but finds himself face-to-face with the Master of Mischief and new Sorcerer Supreme — LOKI LAUFEYSON! And he’s even MORE charming than in the movies! Don’t believe us? Read this one and find out for yourself!

STEPHEN: Doctor Strange AND Spider-Man in the same issue? Yes, please! As Don Slott begins to wrap up his run on The Amazing Spider-Man it might be time to tie up some loose threads. Too bad, Stephen Strange isn’t the current Sorcerer Supreme.

    KOSHCHEI THE DEATHLESS #2
    Writer: Mike Mignola
    Artist: Ben Stenbeck
    Publisher: Dark Horse
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Sent to kill Hellboy by the Baba Yaga in Darkness Calls, Koshchei the Deathless hinted at a long and tragic life before being enslaved to the Russian witch.
Now, in a pub somewhere in Hell, Koshchei tells Hellboy about a dangerous mission when the witch sent him to hunt and destroy the last dragons before their eggs hatched.

RODRIGO: Every critter you ever see in the pages of Hellboy is A) some sort of extant mythological personage and B) A potential doorway into more hellboyish adventures!

STEPHEN: This was not what I expected it to be when I read the first issue, but I was so impressed, that it is a no-brainer to pick up issue #2 this week. Definitely ties into the Hellboy universe for those who only read Mignola for his Hellboy tales.

RASPUTIN VOICE OF THE DRAGON #4
    Writer: Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson
    Artist: Christopher Mitten
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Bruttenholm and Sandhu’s mission to uncover the evasive ”Master” behind the Nazis occult experiments is derailed when they fall into the clutches of their enemy.

STEPHEN: If Koshchei the Deathless #2 is a Hellboy spin-off, Rasputin Voice of the Dragon is a prequel that keeps getting better with each issue. If you ever wondered what events lead up to Hellboy appearing on Earth, this is the book you must get today.

    WITCHBLADE #3
    Writer: Caitlin Kittredge
    Artist: Roberta Ingranata
    Publisher: Top Cow
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: “LIFE AFTER,” Part Three A missing-child case brings Alex and the Witchblade face to face with a powerful demon, and when Alex begins to suspect Ash isn’t telling her everything about the Artifact, she turns to her own sources for information, with devastating results

RODRIGO: I did not expect this comic to be as slow as it is. I’m still figuring out if it’s a weakness or if I’m in for a giant payoff.

    YOUNG MONSTERS IN LOVE
Writers: Mark Russell, Steve Orlando, Jeff Lemire, James Robinson, Paul Dini, Various, Phil Hester, Alisa Kwitney, Kyle Higgins
Artists: Kelley Jones, Frazer Irving, Guillem March, Various
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: 9.99
SOLICITATION: It’s hard being a monster…and even harder being a monster in love. Sparks will fly and hearts will be broken when the ghouls and ghosts of the DC Universe assemble to bring you the Valentine’s Day Special that no one saw coming!

RODRIGO: Well, they were right. I certainly wasn’t expecting this. Ok, monster love anthology, let’s go.
