What was Metropolis like before Superman arrived? That’s the question Warner Bros. Television hopes to answer in the upcoming 13-episode Metropolis series for the DC digital streaming service.
According to Variety, Metropolis is set in the famed city at a time before Superman arrives. It will follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of “fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”
As mentioned, the series has already received a 13-episode commitment with production kicking off later this year. Metropolis is expected to debut when the DC digital streaming service kicks off in 2019.
The show is executive produced by John Stephen and Danny Cannon, the minds behind Gotham, so we know this won’t adhere to the comics.
While I’m all in favor of more DC related content, and having a series that has Lois front and center does make for interesting times, I would really love to see an adaptation of It’s Superman! by Tom De Haven. From the brief description, it really doesn’t sound like this show will be part of a bigger television universe (Arrowverse), and with Krypton doing its own wild and crazy thing, why not do something that is completely different with It’s Superman?
