Major Spoilers Question of the Day: Best Super Symbol Edition

    Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonJanuary 30, 2018Updated:January 31, 20184 Comments1 Min Read

Full disclosure: Today’s MS-QOTD was almost about whose chest emblem is the most iconic, but that one seems sure to lead us all to discussion of THE super symbol.  You know, the one with the Red S in a diamond?  I can’t remember who wears it, but she’s pretty awesome on TV.  Besides, “most iconic” is not the same as “fave-rave”, which is sometimes actually better.  I mean, I wouldn’t call SW6 Matter-Eater Lad’s tooth emblem iconic, but I kinda love it all the same, and I really dig the simple halo that The Angel wore from the end of The Champions to the debut of X-Factor, leading us to today’s caped query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) doesn’t like the modern S-Shield as much as the old-school version due to the negative space elements looking like weird fish, but you can’t fault the Big Red Cheese’s chunky lightning bolt on a field of crimson, asking: Which super symbol is your favorite of all?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

I’m kind of partial to The Flash’s simple logo; gold lightning bolt in a gold circle (I prefer the one with the red background but the white background is more classic and both are cool.)

I’m a fan of the while circle, myself… But any Flash symbol is excellent, especially the JLU version.

Not gonna say Superman, if only to keep things interesting. I’l go with Autobot symbol, preferably colored like in the original chrome and red logo.

A tie between the classic Green Lantern symbol (simple but gets the point across better than some of the stylized variants like Kyle Rayner’s first custom symbol) and the Gokaiger ranger key shaped skull with crossed swords pirate symbol.
