IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

ATOMIC ROBO SPECTRE OF TOMORROW #2
    Writer: Brian Clevinger
    Artist: Scott Wegener
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse it turns out there’s a secret cyborg army that’s maybe attempting to establish a new global order. Remember the old days when all you had to worry about was an honest to goodness mad scientist dinosaur or, like, a bad guy with a laser gun?

STEPHEN: Have I told you how great Atomic Robo is? This issue is heavily reliant on knowledge that came in previous volumes, but hey, those are all freely available online anyway. Do yourself and Clevinger and Wegener a favor and put Atomic Robo on your pull list at your LCS.

BATMAN CREATURE OF THE NIGHT #1
    Writer: Kurt Busiek
    Artist: John Paul Leon
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $5.00
SOLICITATION: Young Bruce Wainwright lost his parents in a violent crime…and in the real world, no superheroes exist to save the day. But as grief and rage builds inside Bruce until he feels he can’t keep it inside anymore, something strange starts taking wing in the Gotham night! Perhaps Bruce’s grief isn’t inside him after all?

STEPHEN: Seems like a lot is going on with Batman in the last couple of months, so why not check out yet another Batman book? On the plus side, this is Kurt Busiek, so you know he’s got a story to tell that will be worth picking up this week.

    John Wick #1JOHN WICK #1
    Writer: Greg Pak
    Artist: Giovanni Valletta
    Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: JOHN WICK: BOOK OF RULES PART ONE
When a young John Wick emerges from prison and embarks upon his first, epic vendetta, he comes up against a strange, powerful community of assassins and must learn how to master the Book of Rules that guides their lethal business. What are the Three Bills? Who is Calamity? And who was John Wick before he became the Baba Yaga? Here for the first time, read the thrilling origin story of John Wick, from “Planet Hulk” writer Greg Pak and “Dark Horse Presents” artist Giovanni Valletta.

STEPHEN: Who would have thought that a movie that everyone thought was a joke when it was first announced, turned out to be a solid action franchise that is now a comic book? Everyone else has jumped on the John Wick bandwagon, so picking up John Wick #1 this week will prove once and for all you are one of the cool kids….

    MYSTIK U #1
    Writer: Alisa Kwitney
    Artist: Michael Norton
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: Leave the world of the mundane behind and step through the magical doors of Mystik U! After a tragic accident, a young Zatanna Zatara, under the guidance of Rose Psychic, enrolls in a mysterious university that teaches its students how to master their unique brands of magic. Will Zatanna fit in with her new classmates (Enchantress, Sargon the Sorcerer, Faust and more!) and unlock her true potential? Find out in this exciting bimonthly miniseries from novelist Alisa Kwitney (DESTINY) and Mike Norton (Revival, Runaways)!

STEPHEN: The magic folk of the DCU meet Harry Potter in this new bimonthly series. If you are a fan of Harry Potter or The Magicians, then this book will be right up your alley.
