IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #790
    Writer: Christos Gage, Dan Slott
    Artist: Stuart Immonen
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: As Peter Parker’s public image and Parker Industries itself take a hit, what’s the latest with the relationship between Spider-Man and Mockingbird?!

STEPHEN: I feel kind of bad for Peter Parker and the way his public and private life have fallen apart since the dome went up over NYC. But change is inevitable, and I’m on board to see what happens next.

    AMERICA #8
    Writer: Gabby Rivera
    Artist: Joe Quinones
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Everyone’s favorite no-nonsense powerhouse, America Chavez, may have finally met her match. Introducing – the deadly and exotic Exterminatrix! Can America continue her hard-hitting journey to defend the multiverse against the oncoming warpath of Exterminatrix and the ominous Midas Corporation? It’s the start of a daring adventure as America gains all-new untested powers, and she’ll need them against the coming horde of villains!

MATTHEW: Mac’s adventures have been really exciting thus far, and the fact that her lucha warlock abula is in the supporting cast now has me locked in for every single issue of this title…

    BATMAN THE MERCILESS #1
    Written by: Peter J. Tomasi
    Art by: Francis Manapul
    Cover Art by: Jason Fabok
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: As the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL rock the DC Universe, the creatures of the Dark Multiverse stand ready to invade our world! How can even the World’s Greatest Heroes stop a horde of deadly beings that appear to be powerful, nightmare versions of familiar figures? Find out in these special tie-in issues!

WAYNE: I’m truly enjoying this event, always breathless to see what’s going to happen next! Another gem!

    BLUE BEETLE #14
    Writer: Chris Sebela
    Artist: Thony Silas
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Following recent events in El Paso, Jaime and his friends decide to take a spontaneous road trip through the desert. But the scarab still exerts its influence, and inevitably, it will to lead Jaime into danger, this time in the form of a U.F.O. Will Jaime be forced to reveal his identity as Blue Beetle to his new girlfriend?

STEPHEN: This series has had a few ups and downs as the publisher tries to figure out what it wants to do with the multiple Blue Beetles running around. Perhaps this road trip will be the needed kick in the pants to turn the title around. Ted and Jamie have been two of my favorites, and I want to see this series become one of the top sellers.

    CAPTAIN KRONOS #2
    Writer: Dan Abnett
    Artist: Tom Mandrake
    Publisher:Titan Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In the depths of Eastern Europe, the legendary vampire hunter, Captain Kronos and his two assistants, Grost and Carla, are called upon to help rid a town of its vampire plague. However, beneath the surface of the beleaguered town a malevolent force far more evil and deadly is awakening and it might just be the match of Kronos…

MATTHEW: The Hammer Comics imprint revives one of Hammer Films’ legendary 70s flicks, with ultra-spooky art by ultra-spooky artist Tom Mandrake. What’s not to love?

    DETECTIVE COMICS #967
    Written by: James Tynion IV
Art/Cover Art by: Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “A LONELY PLACE OF LIVING” part three! It’s a race to save the future of Tim and his team as Red Robin tries to escape his prison outside of time and find his way back to Earth.

WAYNE: I’ve been a fan of Tim Drake since his first appearance, anxious to see what the future holds for this Robin!

    THE FLASH #33
    Written by: Joshua Williamson
    Art by: Howard Porter
Cover Art by: Ethan Van Sciver
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICiTATION: “BATS OUT OF HELL” part one! After the harrowing events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL #3, the JUSTICE LEAGUE has scattered around the world to find the only artifacts that can fight back against the invasion of the Dark Multiverse. The League thinks they know how to take back their world, but they are not prepared for who is standing in their way. The Seven Dark Knights of the Dark Multiverse. All the brilliance of Batman, but none of the morals. Barry Allen, The Fastest Man Alive, is the first to get a taste of their plan, as BATMAN: THE RED DEATH takes him on at the Fortress of Solitude.

WAYNE: The Flash gets in on the Metal event! And it’s going to be great, too!

    RUFF & REDDY SHOW #1
    Writer: Howard Chaykin
    Artist: Mac Rey
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In the Golden Age of television, Ruff and Reddy were on top of the entertainment world…until the world turned, and they were forgotten. Now, Ruff is a washed-up television actor. Reddy is a clerk in an upscale grocery store. Can a hungry young agent convince the two one-time partners to make a comeback-and convince the world that it wants to see the famously infamous dog-and-cat comedy team back in the spotlight? Don’t miss it if you can!

MATTHEW: After Chaykin’s ‘Divided States Of Hysteria’, I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to trust him this soon, but Mac Rey’s art and the strength of this premise make it work for me.
