Major Spoilers Question of the Day: Disavowed Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonAugust 26, 20173 Comments1 Min Read

In keeping with my “four to six months behind the times to avoid being tainted by the zeitgeist” way of enjoying pop culture, I recently saw ‘Blair Witch’, the modern stealth sequel to 1999’s ‘The Blair Witch Project.’  As with any found-footage film, it works best if you don’t think too hard about the gimmick, but it does work quite well.  Being me, I can’t help but think about the other sequel, ‘Blair Witch 2’, notable only for its exploitation factor and for starring the dude from ‘Burn Notice.’  It’s a bad movie, a dumb movie, and one that is clearly disavowed as part of the BW mythos, leading to today’s non-canonical query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) seriously hopes to hear people targeting the Voyager episode, ‘Threshold’, but will be choosing Marvel Comics’ slow, dumb and pointless ‘Civil War’, asking: You get to choose one and only one issue, episode or installment of your favorite pop culture that will be disavowed forever: What’s your call?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

“Highlander: The Source”. I can’t stress this enough, but it is actually worse than “Highlander 2”, something I never expected to be possible. It was almost enough to stop my love of the good parts of the franchise, and is best left forgotten. Do yourself a favor and never, ever watch it. If you have seen it, my deepest sympathies.

Civil War gets my vote too.

Nothing. If I don’t like something, I exclude it from canon. Others may like it, and I don’t want to impose my will on them, so i wouldn’t eliminate it from existence.
