Hartley Sawyer as the Elongated Man for the CW's The Flash
    DC

[Television] The Elongated Man headed to The Flash

    Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJuly 31, 2017Updated:July 31, 20171 Comment2 Mins Read

The CW has announced it has hired Hartley Sawyer to play Ralph Dibny (aka The Elongated Man) for season four of The Flash.

“One of the Flash’s most iconic allies, Ralph Dibny — a.k.a. The Elongated Man — is a fast-talking private investigator with investigative skills that rival those of Batman. Upon discovering he has the power to stretch his body to any shape or form, Dibny uses his new abilities to help Team Flash solve one of Central City’s greatest mysteries.”

For those of you who aren’t aware, Ralph gained his power by drinking Gingold, a soft drink that contained gingo, which gives people stretching abilities. And yes, Ralph intentionally drinks Gingold as opposed to another stretchy character who can’t tell the difference between a science experiment and a soda, all while skipping out on job duties so he can watch robot wrasslin’.

I can’t tell you have excited I am to hear this is happening. Next to Flash and Batman, the adventures of the Elongated Man and his wife Sue, are some of my favorites.

Created in Falsh #112 in May of 1960 by John Broome, and Carmine Infantino, Ralph and his wife had many adventures until Identity Crisis occurred resulting in the death of Sue, and a few years later in 52 #42, Ralph’s death as well.

While it is great that Hartley Sawyer has been cast as Ralph, and will do a bunch of stretchy stuff on the big screen, the best part of the Elongated Man is his relationship with Sue, so I’m hoping we have another announcement soon on her casting.

The Elongated Man is my favorite superhero, and I am really excited for him to be seen in live-action. Part of the love is his relationship with Sue; I do hope her casting will not be far behind!
