[Conventions] Kate Beckinsale and Val Kilmer added to Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento roster

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseJune 5, 20174 Mins Read

    PRESS RELEASE –

Kate Beckinsale, star of such films as Underworld and Pearl Harbor, and Val Kilmer, standout in Batman Forever and Top Gun, have been added to the top-flight celebrity roster at Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento at the Sacramento Convention Center. Both will appear on Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18, when they will greet fans, sign autographs, pose for photo ops and conduct interactive Q&A sessions with fans.

After some minor television roles, the British Beckinsale made her film debut in Much Ado About Nothing (1993) while still a student at the University of Oxford. She then appeared in British costume dramas such as Prince of Jutland (1994), Cold Comfort Farm (1995), Emma (1996), and The Golden Bowl (2000), in addition to various stage and radio productions. She began to seek film work in the United States in the late 1990s and, after appearing in small-scale dramas The Last Days of Disco (1998) and Brokedown Palace (1999), she had starring roles in the war drama Pearl Harbor and the romantic comedy Serendipity . She followed those with appearances in The Aviator (2004) and Click (2006).

Since being cast as Selene in the Underworld film series (2003-present), Beckinsale has become known primarily for her work in action films, including Van Helsing (2004), Whiteout (2009), Contraband (2012), and Total Recall (2012). She also continues to make appearances in dramatic projects such as Snow Angels (2007), Nothing but the Truth (2008), and Everybody’s Fine (2009).

Originally a stage actor, Kilmer became popular in the mid-1980s after a string of appearances in comedy films, starting with Top Secret! (1984), then the cult classic Real Genius (1985), as well as the military action film Top Gun (1986) and the fantasy film Willow (1988).

Some of his other notable film roles include Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991), Doc Holliday in Tombstone (1993), armed robber Chris Shiherlis in Heat (1995), Bruce Wayne / Batman in Batman Forever (1995), Simon Templar in The Saint (1997), astronaut Robby Gallagher in Red Planet (2000), and a meth-using informant in The Salton Sea (2002).

The two join a Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento field of stars which includes Nichelle Nichols (“Star Trek”), the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” quartet of James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter. Emily Caulfield and Nicholas Brendon, the Guardians of the Galaxy tandem of Michael Rooker (“The Walking Dead”) and Sean Gunn (“Gilmore Girls”), Paul Wesley (“The Vampire Diaries”), Edward James Olmos (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Miami Vice”), Bob Morley (“The 100,” Road Kill), Eliza Taylor (“The 100,” “Neighbours”), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory) and the “Charmed” duo of Holly Marie Combs (“Pretty Little Liars”) and Brian Krause (Return to the Blue Lagoon) as headliners at the comic con and pop culture extravaganza, June 16-18.
