[Television] Locke & Key lands at Hulu

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherApril 20, 2017Updated:April 20, 20173 Mins Read

Hello, friends! Have you heard the good word about Locke & Key? We’ve been talking about it for nearly as long as Major Spoilers has been around – It is THAT good. Now the popular series from Joe HIll and Gabriel Rodriguez is finally getting a live action treatment, and it is getting it at Hulu.

“But, Stephen,” you say, with a confused frown on your face, “Wasn’t there a Locke & Key series before? I seem to remember something about that once upon a time.”

You are correct, Dear Reader. Many years ago, FOX had picked up the rights to make a live action adaptation of the series, and even created a pilot episode that some at the San Diego ComiCon were able to see. But sadly, not even the power of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of Star Trek and Transformers fame could knock sense into the minds that were running 20th Century Fox.

Then there was a three movie live action adaptation that Orci and Kurzman tried to run through Universal Pictures, but Universal too was too braindead to see the massive potential behind one of the best comic books you will ever read.

I will repeat that for those of you in the back row – LOCKE & KEY IS THE BEST COMIC YOU WILL EVER READ!

Wait… you do know what Locke & Key is about, right?

Locke & Key is a horror/ fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.

Fortunately, someone at Hulu has their priorities in order and has handed out a pilot order for another run at the property.  At this time, Carlton Cuse will serve as the showrunner, with Joe Hill penning the script for the hourlong pilot. Cuse will also executive produce the pilot with Scott Derrickson of Doctor Strange fame, and Lindsey Springer.  Derrickson is scheduled to direct the pilot.

Will the pilot blow our minds and lead to a full series? One can only hope. With the team of Derrickson, Cuse, and Hill running the show, then I have faith. And in these dark days Spoilerites, we need a little faith.

can’t think of better hands for this right now… O.O https://t.co/p3EZ8iuAkv

We got a great team on the show. First script all written – everyone seems to like it. I'm expecting @scottderrickson to Rocke & Roll.
