[Gaming] Dice Masters splits into Modern Age and Golden Age play

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherFebruary 24, 2017Updated:February 24, 20173 Mins Read

If you were wondering how far WizKids would go for its Dice Masters line, it plans on keeping the game alive for a long time. To keep play fresh, and keep new players from being closed out by those that have every die released, WizKids is creating two modes of play; Golden Age and Modern Age events.

Golden Age is the format that includes almost every card released – it’s the present format for constructed. It will continue to contain everything that is released, minus Golden Age banned cards. It’s the format you already know and love playing.

Modern Age will change from year to year. As new sets are released, they will become Modern-Age-legal per the tournament rules for card/die legality.

As sets age out, they will be moved to Golden Age categories for those that want to keep the past alive. This type of restructuring is nothing new in the collectible game market; Magic: The Gathering does it all the time, as do other CCG systems. Seeing the rotation system move into Dice Masters seems like a natural evolution, and will allow those that want to play casually to keep their old sets alive, while those who want to play competitively will need to keep their systems up to date.

The Modern Age will kick off on June 1st, 2017, with all future National Championships and World Championships events using the most current collection.

Modern Age includes the following sets :

    • DC Comics Dice Masters: War of Light
    • Marvel Dice Masters: The Amazing Spider-Man
    • D&D Dice Masters: Faerûn Under Siege
    • DC Comics Dice Masters: World’s Finest

    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters: Box Set
    • DC Comics Dice Masters: Green Arrow and The Flash

    • Marvel Dice Masters: Iron Man and War Machine Starter Set
    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters: Heroes In A Half-Shell Box Set
    • DC Comics Dice Masters: Batman
    • Marvel Dice Masters: Defenders Team Pack

The following promos, and any promos releasing in 2017 will also be considered Modern Age:

    • Batmobile: From Wayne Enterprises
    • Iron Fist: The Immortal
    • Robin: Teen Titans Team Leader
    • Starfire: Powerful Friend
