4) “THE BATMAN LOOKS LIKE THIS!”
Perhaps my favorite Batman story of them all, from Batman #250, features Bruce Wayne taking a group of underprivileged kids on a camping trip, where their campfire tales turn to the story of Batman. Each child has their own idea of what Batman is like, leading Bruce to pull a prank and tell a story of his own, bringing out his real bat-suit, only to find that the kids aren’t impressed. “The Batman’s frightening image scares the guilty, not the innocent,” muses Wayne, leaving the story (which, apropos of nothing, is the first appearance of the character who would eventually inspire Batwing) with an amusing (and dare I say cute?) ending, a rarity for the Caped Crusader.
