[Business] Oni Press hires new sales manager

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseAugust 8, 20163 Mins Read

    PRESS RELEASE:

Oni Press, Portland’s premier independent comic book publisher, is proud to announce the hiring of David Dissanayake as Sales Manager.

“We’re very excited to have David on the team and I think retailers are going to be just as excited once they get to interact with him,” says Publisher Joe Nozemack. “David’s hands-on experience in comic book retail gives him an incredible ability to relate to the challenges and opportunities facing our market. Oni Press has an incredibly diverse line of books and David is going to be able to work with each store to maximize their sales on the appropriate Oni Press titles.”

“David’s expertise and passion for comics will also benefit us in the bookstore and library market,” says Editor-in-Chief James Lucas Jones. “Through his work with Magnetic Press, David has built relationships in both those markets and we know those relationships will only grow as he works with VP of Marketing and Sales, Andrew McIntire, to increase Oni Press’s outreach to those critical markets. The comic book medium has a fantastic opportunity to attract new readers through public and school libraries. We’ve worked hard to cultivate a publishing line that ensures library patrons are able to find comic books that speak directly to them and we’re confident David will work hard to make those books available to librarians and schools everywhere.”

David Dissanayake joins the Oni Press team after two years with Magnetic Press, where he served as Director of Sales & Marketing. At Magnetic Press, he launched Ulises Fariñas’ publishing imprint Buño, and served as editor on several award winning books such as LRNZ’s Golem, three-time Eisner Award nominee Tony Sandoval’s autobiography, Rendez-Vous in Phoenix, and the forthcoming Black Comix art book anthology curated by Harvard Fellow and Eisner Award winner John Jennings. He has almost a decade’s worth of retail experience, most recently as manager of Mission: Comics & Art, a book store and art gallery in San Francisco. Dissanayake’s hire follows the departure of Oni Press’s Director of Sales, Shy Allot.

“Oni Press is undeniably one of world’s best publishers,” says Dissanayake. “They have been consistently releasing some of the best comics I’ve ever read, and I can say that with 100% honesty. Their commitment to quality and diversity is spectacular, and their eclectic catalog of titles is unmatched. Being brought onto the Oni team in time for their twentieth anniversary is an honor, and it’s an absolute thrill to be working alongside the industry’s finest as we gear up to take things to the next level.”
