Major Spoilers Question of the Day: My Friends And Zoidberg Edition

    Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonAugust 6, 2016Updated:August 18, 20161 Comment1 Min Read

Poor Potsie Weber…  Even though Richie was a nerd and Ralph annoying beyond words, he somehow got to be the butt-monkey of 1957 Milwaukee.  It’s honestly hard to understand how this happened, just as it’s hard to figure out why Dr. Zoidberg gets the flak he does from his Planet Express cohorts.  Yes, he’s a schlub, but is he really more annoying than the robot who keeps trying to kill them all?  Contrast, for example, Barney Stinson (whose friends dislike hanging out with him for concrete reasons) leading us to today’s interpersonal query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) requests no real-world examples, please, asking: What fictional character can you not believe is tolerated by their friends?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Almost every super hero team has “that” guy. One who doesn’t follow leaders orders, goes on a murderous rampage or does stuff behind everyone else’s back, putting all in danger. They are usually included because they are the “cool” guys. No, they’re not.
