IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    sabrinaCHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA #5
    Writer: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
    Artist: Robert Hack
    Publisher: Archie Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Sabrina has to face the Witches Council for an accusation of conspiring with a mortal against the Church of Night. It will take a series of unnatural tests to prove her innocence, but none of it will bring her beloved Harvey back. She’ll have to take matters into her own hands to find Harvey’s missing soul. Recruiting two other young witches (from a neighboring coven), Sabrina holds a séance, but as ever, Madame Satan is pulling the strings behind the scenes, and what Sabrina taps into is much more dangerous – and diabolical. And will send our beloved teen witch on an epic quest. For TEEN+ readers.

MATTHEW: Delays or no delays, I’m always ready for some Archie Horror…

    FQ1coverpickoftheweekFUTURE QUEST #1
    Writer: Jeff Parker
    Artist: Evan Shaner
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: When the adventurous and inquisitive Jonny Quest and his adoptive brother Hadji make a startling discovery in the swamplands of Florida, they are pulled into an epic struggle between the Space Rangers and a dangerous villain who threatens the galaxy. Now it’s up to the combined forces of Team Quest, Inter-Nation Security, Space Ghost, and a host of Hanna-Barbera’s greatest action heroes to stop him and save their universe!

MATTHEW: I can’t remember the last time I looked forward to a comic as much as I’m looking forward to this one… Maybe 2011?

STEPHEN: I think this will be handled well, and certainly taking the Hanna-Barbera and having them crossover like this is something we rarely see, so this one is definitely a must read this week.

WAYNE: Can’t wait for this series! Every single one of these cartoons was a must-see for me, so to see them again is just going to make my month!

    internationalironmanINTERNATIONAL IRON MAN #3
    Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
    Artist: Alex Maleev
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION:  As Tony’s troubled past comes to the present new villains and allies are introduced. And Tony inches ever closer to finding out the identity of his birth parents.
A Civil War II prologue story.
From the creative team that brought you Daredevil’s darkest chapter.

JON: Remember when Tony Stark found out he was adopted and had a brother named Arno? I don’t blame you if you don’t, but this issue may bring us one step closer to learning more about Tony’s past. Plus, any excuse to see Bendis and Maleev working in tandem is a good one.

    invincible128INVINCIBLE #128
    Writer: Robert Kirkman
    Artist: Ryan Ottley
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Allen the Alien is under attack. Has Mark’s absence put all his friends and family in danger? Will he be able to put things right before it’s too late?

MATTHEW: I am still convinced that there’s more to this latest story point than it seems, but once again, Kirkman has hooked me back into the life and times of Mark Grayson…

STEPHEN: I don’t get to read this series as often as I like, but every time I do, Invincible never disappoints. Invincible is always a must buy book.

powermanironfist4POWER MAN AND IRON FIST #4
    Writer: David Walker
    Artist: Sanford Greene
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: IT’S TIME TO ROLL ON ROYCE! Former Heroes for Hire office manager Jennie Royce’s resentment for LUKE and DANNY, and her power from the stolen SUPERSOUL STONE, is reaching capacity! Time for an old school BIG APPLE GRUDGE MATCH: MIGHT and RIGHT versus MISGUIDED and MAGIC! Be like New York City! DON’T SLEEP! READ THIS COMIC INSTEAD!

JON: Sweet Christmas, this is by far one of the best titles on Marvel’s current roster. Luke Cage and Iron Fist are, hands-down, the best duo in the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe, no fiddle-faddle.

ROB: Danny and Luke as a team was something I never got to experience back when. Their time together had been over before I got into comics. I now understand why they made such a good team.

    snowfall4coverSNOW FALL #4

Writer: Joe Harris
    Artist: Martin Morazzo
    Publisher: Image Comics

Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The hunt for the missing formulary leads to 2045 New York City where the White Wizard hopes to reignite his weather war against Hazeltyne and the Cooperative. Meanwhile, Inspector Deal discovers the truth behind Project Snowfall and August’s frighteningly powerful-and dangerous-daughter.

WAYNE: This book is a great sci-fi/fantasy story that I’m enjoying greatly. Hey, Mr. Harris and Mr. Morazzo do a great job on their comics, so you should be reading it, too!

    spiderman4SPIDER-MAN #4
    Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
    Artist: Sara Pichelli
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Miles is just finding his feet in the all new marvel universe; the media is growing obsessed with his skin color and now he has to share his own book with a hot new mutant who goes by the name of… wait for it… All this and the Queenpin of New York, the Black Cat, has set her sights on this new Spider-Man. She has put out a hit on his head and now no one is safe!

ROB: Miles getting to deal with Peter’s classic villains is a great idea. Miles in the 616-Earth is a great idea. Mile is a great idea, I can’t get past how good the character is.

    spiderwoman7SPIDER-WOMAN #7
    Writer: Dennis Hopeless
    Artist: Joelle Jones
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: SPIDER-WOMEN: PART 7! What’s happened in the Marvel Universe during Jessica’s time on Earth-65? What’s happened in HER HOME?! WHO’S THAT WITH HER BABY?!

ROB: We’re about to see Mama Bear Jessica Drew, and she’s going to whoop on her own counterpart, and it’s going to be great.

    SAA7COVERSUPERMAN AMERICAN ALIEN #7 of 7
    Writer: Max Landis
    Artist: Jock

Cover Artist: Ryan Sook
    Publisher: DC Comics

But when Clark’s attempt at reason fails and the bounty hunter reveals some unpleasant truths about Clark’s own alien origin, a brutal showdown begins! Superstar artist Jock reteams with Max Landis for the epic series finale to SUPERMAN: AMERICAN ALIEN!

WAYNE: This has been such a great miniseries! I love this cover, and am going to be really interested to see how Mr. Landis ties this all up. Can he write more Superman, pretty please?

SMWW_Cv29-copy_56b8eb28cee520.48193420SUPERMAN WONDER WOMAN #29 (FINAL DAYS)
    Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
    Artist: Jorge Jimenez
    Publisher: DC Comics

JON: With the launch of DC’s Rebirth a mere week away, we’re current two Kal-El’s above quota. This issue will set everyone’s favorite American Alien’s future in stone, at least until the next (don’t call it a) reboot.
