[Movies] EW debuts first look at Wonder Woman’s Amazons

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherMarch 24, 20162 Mins Read

If you’ve already seen Batman v Superman, you’ve seen Wonder Woman in action. If you follow Major Spoilers, you’ve seen behind the scenes and official photos from the upcoming Wonder Woman solo flick. What you haven’t seen are many of the Amazons that Wonder Woman interacts with. That changes now.

Entertainment Weekly was able to nab the first official photos of Wonder Woman and the Amazonians, which shouldn’t come as a big surprise…

8461545-menalippe-diana-hippolyta-antiopeCorporate ownership aside, the image features Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman standing alongside Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), General Antiope (Robin Wright), and Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli) three powerful women who help to raise and train Diana.

What is most interesting is the look of the island as it appears to be completely CGI. If it was, it would go along with the mythical look and feel of Themyscira – a place that is not like “Man’s World.” However, the island scenes in the movie were shot on location in Italy and southern China.

Adds producer Charles Roven, “Themyscira is influenced by the Greek but it’s clearly more then that,” he says. “It’s a place that has the ‘you’ve never been to’ kind of feel. But once you’re there you’re not so sure you really want to leave so fast.”

Though Batman v Superman is on everyone’s lips, and The LEGO Batman Movie comes out in February, I would put money that a majority of comic book readers are super anxious for Wonder Woman to arrive on June 23, 2017.
