IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    batman50BATMAN #50
    Writer: Scott Snyder
    Artist: Greg Capullo
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: Batman has returned to Gotham City! In this extra-sized conclusion to Snyder and Capullo’s epic story “Superheavy,” Bruce Wayne returns to the cape and cowl to battle Mr. Bloom alongside Jim Gordon for the fate of the city they both love.

STEPHEN: The Snyder/Capullo run on Batman has been fantastic, and is probably the best thing to have come from the New 52. To see this come to a close just ahead of the big Rebirth is probably a good thing, and this is definitely the must read comic of the week.

hellboyHELLBOY AND THE B.P.R.D.: 1953 BEYOND THE FENCES #2
    Writer: Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson
    Artist: Paolo Rivera
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: Suburbia is torn apart when Hellboy faces off against a bizarre creature, while the BPRD tries to uncover who created such a monster—and why.

RODRIGO: I reviewed this for the MSP. It’s straight up hellboy doing his hellboy thing, so if you like either of those I recommend checking it out.

    Klaus_004_A_MainKLAUS #4
    Writer: Grant Morrison
    Artist: Dan Mora
    Publisher: BOOM! Studios
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Klaus and Lady Dagmar’s romantic and tragic past is revealed.

STEPHEN: The trippy crazy adventures of Santa Claus continues this week, and I can get behind Morrison’s take on the mythical character. If you have a sandwich handy, it helps.

    Rocketeer_AtWar_02-1ROCKETEER AT WAR #2
    Writer: Marc Guggenheim
    Artist: Dave Bullock
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Don’t miss the next thrilling chapter of The Rocketeer by superstars Marc Guggenheim and Dave Bullock! The Rocketeer takes to the skies in the thrilling days of World War II!!! What is Project Bedlam and does Cliff Secord stand a chance of stopping the Nazis’ plans for world domination?

STEPHEN: It seems like forever since this series kicked off, but anything with the Rocketeer in it means good times ahead.

    shadowglass1THE SHADOW GLASS #1
    Writer: Writer: Aly Fell
    Artist: Aly Fell
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: A young student of England’s greatest occultist learns her real father is in league with the devil. When Rose finds out that the man who raised her isn’t her father, she ignores his warnings about the terrible secrets of her own past and seeks answers from her childhood teacher Dr. John Dee, the queen’s occult adviser.

RODRIGO: Historical Elizabethan fiction is not something I’d expect to like, but this looks interesting.

    tmnt56TMNT ONGOING #56
    Writer: Tom Waltz, Kevin Eastman
    Artist: Mateus Santolouco
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Turtles return to the Technodrome to monitor the revival of the Utroms. They are surprised to meet a new mutant there- Leatherhead! Will the mysterious mutant be friend or foe?

ROB: Woo, the team’s back together! And we get to see our first look at Leatherhead, which has been quite some time coming. This series is still great and my favorite book every month.

    ultimates5ULTIMATES #5
    Writer: Al Ewing
    Artist: Kenneth Rocafort
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Beyond every universe…beyond the omniverse itself…beyond any limit mankind has ever known…there is only The Outside. From here, The Ultimates can see into the true nature of all time and space – and learn the secrets of the All-New Marvel Universe! The question is…what’s out here seeing into them?

ROB: High concept Avengers solving the problems of the universe. I like that this team is setting up to be a proactive agency trying to figure out how to make the entirety of the universe a better place and I look forward to seeing more of it.

    venom5VENOM SPACE KNIGHT #5
    Writer: Robbie Thompson
    Artist: Ariel Olivetti
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: PIK ROLLO IS A GIANT SPACE PANDA BEAR And she is tough as %&#$, while still being adorable. But she needs some help from VENOM to rescue her child (also ADORABLE) from our big cosmic bad guy, who wants Venom dead. Venom, and pretty much anyone else getting in his way. Panda. Bear. Mercenaries. From. Space.

ROB: Venom has been a surprisingly good read. Flash is a great character to follow, and giving him solo space adventures was one of the best decisions Marvel has made. I’m just hoping his current supporting cast gets to stay on for a significant amount of time.

    x-men2X-MEN: THE WORST X-MAN EVER #2
    Writer: Max Bemis
    Artist: Michael Walsh
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: Bailey may be the worst X-Man ever…but Mystique sees something in him! Meanwhile…he tries to fit into every part of the X-Universe! The new X-Mini by Say Anything frontman Max Bemis continues here

RODRIGO: Been meaning to pick up #1 so I guess I’ll pick this up too, this looks pretty funny.
