Major Spoilers Question Of The Day: The Big Cat Edition

    Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonMarch 11, 2016Updated:March 11, 20167 Comments1 Min Read

Though there’s lots of talk about Spider-Man’s appearance in the latest ‘Captain America: Civil War’ trailer, I’m still more excited about the appearance of the live-action Black Panther on film.  (I also don’t understand how he’s not considered a Fantastic Four character, but then again, I asked the same thing about Ronan The Accuser in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy.’)  Though not necessarily Marvel’s first superhero of color, he’s certainly right near the front of the line, and his position as king of Wakanda gives him a perspective that we haven’t yet seen in the freewheeling Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Plus, cat-themed characters are super-neat, which leads us to today’s feline query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) might put down some money on the 50s Black Cat or perhaps Patsy Walker, the happy-go-lucky Hellcat, but certainly not the nefarious Armless Tiger Man, asking: Which cat-themed character is the a-number one Big Cat to you?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Black Panther…no doubt is my number one cat-themed comic book character.

A possible answer to your question of why Black Panther and Ronan the Accuser, who both debuted in a Fantastic Four comic are in the Marvel Cinematic Universe instead of Fox produced movie…Fox Movie Studios did not think enough to include these characters in their movie licensing deal. Or Fox had/has no idea which characters are FF related.

Wildcat (DC Universe) is a honorable mention.

Is Wolverine a cat? he has claws

Wolverines are mustelids, like weasels and otters.

Rath from Ben 10. LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, RATH IS AN AWESOME BIG CAT CHARACTER AND DON’T TAKE GRUFF FROM NOONE BUT FLUFFY MARSHMALLOW ALIEN BABIES! RATH ALSO DOESN’T HAVE AN INSIDE VOICE!

I’m also partial to DC’s Wildcat Ted Grant. He’s my second favorite member of several incarnations of the JSA, and I always feel pretty excited when he makes the leap to an adaptation of DC material such as “Justice League Unlimited” or “Arrow”.

Wildcat to me. Hes the grandfather of all cats. Tigra has lots of erm, advantages, but heritage is what counts here.
