IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

ARROF5coverATOMIC ROBO & THE RING OF FIRE #5

Writer: Brian Clevinger
    Artist: Scott Wegener

Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Atomic Robo is back. Action Scientists are in force. The world is saved. Everything returns to normal. AND SCENE!

STEPHEN: This adventure has been an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. This final volume contains so much hope and so much potential horror that I can’t wait to see when and where elements from this story surface again. Definitely a must have comic this week!

WAYNE: Another terrific miniseries comes to a conclusion, and Robo and his team will be great, as always! My favorite mystery will be how many fellow Spoilerites will pick this title this week! We love this book!

    CFC3coverCOPS FOR CRIMINALS #3

Writer: Steven Grant
    Artist: Pete Woods
    Publisher: Legendary Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99

SOLICITATION: When a federal agent becomes a victim of the system he has sworn to uphold, he finds true justice in the criminal underworld. Philip is instructed to launch a surveillance investigation into rival mobster Max Terracini’s operations. A series of murders threatens to disrupt order on the streets, and his investigation quickly turns into a manhunt. Can Philip catch a killer before a gang war erupts?

WAYNE: I do love me some crime mystery! I also enjoy Steven Grant’s work, so I’ll be fascinated to see what happens in this issue! Highly recommended from a great comics company, I might add!

    cryhavocCRY HAVOC #1
    Writer: Simon Spurrier
    Artist: Ryan Kelly
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
    SOLICITATION: BEHOLD THE MODERN MONSTROSITY.
X-Men Legacy writer SIMON SPURRIER and superstar artist RYAN KELLY present fiends, fragility, and firepower in an all-new series, mixing the hard-boiled militaria of Jarhead with the dark folklore of Pan’s Labyrinth. Includes an unprecedented use of multiple colorists (MATT WILSON, LEE LOUGHRIDGE, & NICK FILARDI) to define the story’s threads, and an incredible variant cover by Eisner Award winner CAMERON STEWART. This is not the tale of a lesbian werewolf who goes to war. Except it kind of is.

GEORGE: Two great creators and a bonkers concept. I’m in.

CYB_Cv7_561572a641b424.81634064CYBORG #7 ADULT COLORING BOOK VAR

    DE2coverDREAMING EAGLES #2

Writer: Garth Ennis
    Artist: Simon Coleby
    Cover Artist: Francesco Francavilla
    Publisher: AfterShock Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Reggie Atkinson continues the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, from their training as fighter pilots to their first combats as they fly against the German forces occupying Sicily and Italy. The men of the 99th Fighter Squadron do not lack spirit – but the opposition have years of experience and vastly superior aircraft. Reggie and Fats must fly for their lives, ever conscious of the racial bigotry that sets them apart from other American squadrons…

WAYNE: Garth Ennis and WWII history? I’m there! Also, AfterShock Comics is off to a terrific start, in my opinion, so I highly recommend them all! Diversity in my comics – I love it!

    faith1FAITH #1

    Artist: Frances Portela
    Publisher: Valiant Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99

But flying solo is going to be tougher than she ever thought as she uncovers a deep-rooted alien conspiracy that could destroy human civilization from the inside out! Is Faith out of her depth…or in for her biggest adventure yet? Rising star Jody Houser (Orphan Black) and red-hot artist Francis Portela (Green Lantern) pilot a new chapter for Valiant’s high-flying hero right here in her first-ever limited series!

MATTHEW: Even though I read and reviewed the first issue last week for the M.S.P., I’m still looking forward to getting my actual copy. This character is long overdue for solo fame, my friends, so get in on the ground floor…

    ghostbustersGHOSTBUSTERS INTERNATIONAL #1
    Writer: Erik Burnham
    Artist: Dan Schoening
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: There’s something strange in the neighborhood… and whether that neighborhood is in New York City or Venice, Italy, the Ghostbusters will be there! After a bust at the United Nations, the boys in gray are engaged to investigate an Old World haunting, where they begin to unravel a mystery that sends them around the globe (while still trying to keep their contract with the City, County, and State of New York!). Join us for the next chapter in Ghostbusters history – because you demanded it: GHOSTBUSTERS INTERNATIONAL

    MATTHEW: Venkman in France? Sold!

ROB: Their back in yet another ongoing story. IDW’s take on the Ghostbusters continues to be a great look at these characters and I’m happy to see more of it coming.

STEPHEN: This is a solid issue, and for Ghostbusters fans, this is the next logical chapter in the expansion of the franchise.

    hellboywinterspecialHELLBOY WINTER SPECIAL #1

Then Tim Sale visits Mignola’s prehistoric mythology, and in a lead-in to the upcoming issues of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1953, Hellboy explores a haunted mine in the barren wastes of Wyoming.

RODRIGO: I’m always down for some Hellboy one-shots.

STEPHEN: This book already has two of my favorite writers, and two of my favorite artists. The fact that it is a Hellboy special is icing on the cake. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

    darkjemJEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS #11
    Writer: Kelly Thompson, Sophie Campbell
    Artist: Sophie Campbell
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Something is wrong with SYNERGY! As JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS first tour begins, something—or someone—called SILICA is after them… but who, or what, is she? Meanwhile, THE MISFITS need to replace their lead singer fast—and maybe even… permanently?!?

MATTHEW: This book has been a thrill-ride, and who doesn’t like the idea of Dark Jem as a glam/punk fusion?

RODRIGO: I’ve been seeing the Dark Jem stuff floating around for a few days, so I’m very interested in this turn of events.

    Old-Man-Logan-1-Cover-847afOLD MAN LOGAN #1
    Writer: Jeff Lemire
    Artist: Andrea Sorrentino
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Fifty years from now, Logan — the man who no longer calls himself Wolverine — will have endured many atrocities: The Marvel Universe’s villains will have banded together and rid the world of its heroes. Logan’s closest friend, Hawkeye, will have been murdered in cold blood right before his eyes. And driven mad by the same radiation that gave him his superhuman strength, Bruce Banner will have fathered a family of hillbilly Hulks…that eventually went on to slaughter Logan’s wife and two children. But now, in the present, Old Man Logan wakes up to discover himself in a world before these atrocities, before the Wasteland. And he’s going to seize this opportunity and change history to ensure that his future never comes to pass…

DAVID: Logan is back! Well, kinda. I’m not one for X-Men books typically, but with a team like Lemire and Sorrentino, you can’t keep me away. I am really curious to see what this version remembers about Battle World, and how he’s going to fit in to this world.

A clone general goes against his Brain-Mother overlords to gain control of an alien egg. Start of the final six issue mini-series.

GEORGE: Man, this one has been in the works for quite some time. Don’t forget about this book – Prophet was once the best science-fiction saga on the stands, and it’s back for a big finish.

    saga33SAGA #33
    Writer: Brian K. Vaughn
    Artist: Fiona Staples
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
