IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    ALL NEW X-MEN #2
    Writer: Dennis Hopeless
    Artist: Mark Bagley
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Hated and feared more than ever, the world is a dangerous place for mutants. As the few remaining X-MEN retreat into seclusion, a handful of mutant teenagers refuse to allow their destiny to be decided for them. CYCLOPS. BEAST. ICEMAN. ANGEL. THE ALL-NEW WOLVERINE. KID APOCALYPSE. OYA. Stepping out of the shadows of their predecessors, the ALL-NEW X-MEN are striking out on their own, determined to write their own futures!

ROB: 90% of why I want this title is to find out why Oya and Kid Apoc are here. That said, the entire set up is actually rather fun anyhow, so I’m happy.

    CLEAN ROOM #3
    Writer: Gail Simone
    Artist: Jon Davis-Hunt
    Publisher: Vertigo
    Cover Price: $3.99

SOLICITATION: Self-help guru Astrid Mueller faces some unexpected personal consequences in her latest trip into the Clean Room, where dirty secrets and demons come to life. Meanwhile, intrepid journalist Chloe encounters an unexpected, otherworldly visitor, and assassin Killian gets a good rubdown in ‘Good Things and Celebrity Deaths.’

CHRIS: Just when I thought I had a grasp on Gail Simone’s writing, she goes and puts out Clean Room. The first two issues grabbed and shook me near to death, and I couldn’t have loved them more. A great horror book that I have no clue where it’s going and can’t wait to find out!

    DARK HORSE PRESENTS #17
Writers: Paul Levitz, Alex de Campi, Dennis Calero, Brendan McCarthy, Shawn Aldridge, Carla Speed McNeil, David Chelsea
Artist: Dennis Calero, Brendan McCarthy, Carla Speed McNeil, David Chelsea, Tim Hamilton, Jerry Ordway, Julius Gopez
    Cover Price: $4.99
    Publisher: Dark Horse
SOLICITATION: Paul Levitz and Tim Hamilton premiere Brooklyn Blood! In a precinct not known for murder, a killer is on the loose. If Detective Billy O’Connor’s PTSD doesn’t get in the way, he may be able to help his partner Nadira Hasan solve this eerie case.
This issue also features new chapters of Carla Speed McNeil’sFinder,Shawn Aldridge and Julius Gopez’s Last Act, Dennis Calero’s The Suit, and David Chelsea’s Sandy and Mandy. Alex de Campi and Jerry Ordway’s Semiautomagic and Brendan McCarthy’s Dream Gang conclude!

RODRIGO: It’s time for a new Dark Horse Presents, I’m looking forward to the ending of the trip-tacular Dream Gang..

    DRAGON AGE: MAGEKILLER #1
    Writer: Greg Rucka
    Penciller: Carmen Carnero
    Publisher: Dark Horse
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: Greg Rucka writes Dragon Age!
Greg Rucka begins an all-new story set in the immersive dark-fantasy world of Dragon Age!

Tessa and Marius are mercenary partners, eliminating those who use blood magic to hurt others, but when a powerful patron employs them, they realize this next job may be their last . . .

RODRIGO: Interest percentages: 10% Rucka, 20% Dragon Age, 70% Carnero art.

    I HATE FAIRYLAND #3
    Writer: Skottie Young
    Artist: Skottie Young
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.50

SOLICITATION: Queen Cloudia is forced to bend the rules of Fairyland in hopes to rid their world of Gert once and for all. MAJOR PLOT POINT Gert will face her greatest foe yet, another human child named… Happy. Will she survive the power of true joy? Spoiler: This time, I’m not sure. We’ll see how it goes.

CHRIS: This book is so suited for me. An art style that contradicts the nature of the story and humor in the comic. If you couldn’t tell by the cover, this one’s extremely violent so keep the kids away. It’s also mean spirited, cynical with an extremely angry protagonist. Perfect!

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS HOLIDAY SPECIAL
    Writer: Kelly Thompson
    Artist: Amy Mebberson
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: SECRET SANTAS! When Jem and The Holograms and The Misfits draw each other in their shared record label’s gift exchange, heads will roll… or will the holiday spirit getting to even the bitterest of enemies?

RODRIGO: Secret Santa Rock n’ Roll mayhem!? Sign me up.

    MIGHTY THOR #2
    Writer: Jason Aaron
    Artist: Russell Dauterman
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • The return of Loki! • But for Thor, will he be friend or foe?

ROB: Loki’s back! How does Loki fit into the Marvel U at this point? Last I knew he was a Young Avenger.

    WEB WARRIORS #2
    Writer: Mike Costa
    Artist: David Baldeon
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • SPIDER-GWEN STRANDED! Without her interdimensional timepiece to get her home, Gwen Stacy (AKA Spider-Woman) has no choice but to sit tight and wait to be rescued by the rest of the Web Warriors. • Everyone’s favorite hoodie-wearing hero isn’t exactly a damsel in distress, though, is she?

ROB: More Spider-Gwen is plenty of reason to pick up the Web Warriors series, but the first issue set us up with an interesting premise and I’m excited to see more.
