Major Spoilers Staff Picks for November 25, 2015 #NCBD

Robot OverlordBy Robot OverlordNovember 25, 20158 Mins Read

IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    Adam3_cover4ADAM.3 #4 of 4

Writer/Artist: Scott Kolins
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Scott Kolins (The Flash, The Avengers) continues his career highlight with “Death”-part four of S.E.E.D.S. How can Adam survive when his paradise has transformed into a haunting nightmare? Family and friends all seem lost as the infectious monster JRMM reveals a new, dark secret! DO. NOT. MISS.

WAYNE: I have loved this book, hoping for more from Mr. Kolins! For me, Christmas is coming early with the conclusion to this miniseries! Highly recommended!

BMIIITMCcover1pickoftheweekDARK KNIGHT III THE MASTER RACE #1
    Writer: Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello
    Artist: Andy Kubert, Klaus Janson
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: The epic ending you never saw coming is here because you demanded it! The Dark Knight rises again to face the dawn of the master race!

CHRIS: As one of the few (only?) people that not only liked DK II but liked it more than the original, I can’t believe I’m looking forward to it. DK II was certainly not a well done book and I honestly only like it for its wack-a-do concepts and ideas. I think Miller has lost it in his old age (Holy Terror is proof) and Azzarello might be able to rein him in. Without Frank’s “unique” art, this one might lose some of its luster (and grime). And can we all acknowledge the fact that they’re calling this the last chapter even though Miller has said he wants to write part IV? I love crazy!!

STEPHEN: Dark Knight Returns is one of the greatest comic books of all time – no matter what other people say. Though DKII undid the greatness that was The Dark Knight Returns, Brian Azzarello channeling Frank Miller could be all kinds of awesome. The cover price is a bit high, but so worth checking out this week.

WAYNE: Another early holiday present this week! As a long-time Bat-fan, I always count Dark Knight Returns among one of my favorite Bat-stories ever! With Mr. Miller teaming up with Mr. Azzarello, I’m really excited, can’t wait to get this book! Batman continues to soar high, and this book is just one series I’m loving!

    darthvader13DARTH VADER 13
    Writer: Kieron Gillen
    Artist: Salvador Larroca
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • The first crossover of Star Wars’s new Marvel age continues here!
    • Vader vs. All the Rebels…it’s not a fair fight!

GEORGE: Guess a crossover was inevitable, given that Star Wars is a Disney/Marvel property. I’m not sure it is the selling point that this solicitation touts it as. That said, Gillen and Larroca’s Darth Vader has been the best of the Marvel titles and I like this concept… and I’d be lying if I said my Star Wars manias aren’t reaching a fever pitch.

empoweredEMPOWERED SPECIAL #7 PEW PEW PEW B&W
    Writer: Adam Warren
    Artist: Adam Warren
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The laser blasts fly as costumed crime fighter Empowered battles a series of puzzlingly rage-fueled supervillains, each one armed with a bigger and more destructive “supergun” than the last. Ah, but might our long-suffering heroine’s own buried resentments and repressed bitterness prove to be her deadliest foes? (SPOILER: Yes, pretty much.)

MATTHEW: It’s always great when a running joke turns into something really good, and Empowered has one of the most creative and surprising superhero stories being told anywhere. I like it, even if her nose does look kinda like a sheep whenever shown in profile…

    hemanHE-MAN: THE ETERNITY WAR #12
    Writer: Dan Abnett
    Artist: Pop Mhan
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: 2.99
SOLICITATION: By the Power of Grayskull, the universe stands on the brink of annihilation! Only He-Man can save us. But to do so, he must first escape the clutches of King Hssss, the serpent Master of Disguise! Can He-Man overcome a monster with the power to become everyone he knows and loves?

RODRIGO: Did I even know this was going on? I gotta track down 11 issues of a comic down now, you guys.

    jughead2JUGHEAD #2
    Writer: Chip Zdarsky
    Artist: Erica Henderson
    Publisher: Archie Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Zdarsky and Henderson return with the next issue of the all-new Jughead! Things continue to be amiss at Riverdale High as Coach Clayton gets replaced by a tough-as-nails, take-no-prisoner Phys-Ed teacher! Can he be stopped or will Jughead have to become physically active? The answer lies in the far future!

MATTHEW: This looks nuts. I’m sold.

Moon_Girl__Devil_Dinosaur_1_CoverMOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR #1
    Writer: Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare
    Artist: Natacha Bustos
    Publisher: Marvel
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: LUNELLA LAFAYETTE is a preteen super genius who wants to change the world-but learned the hard way that it takes MORE than just big brains. Fearful of the monstrous INHUMAN genes inside her, life is turned upside down when a savage, red-scaled tyrant is teleported from prehistoric past to a far-flung future we call TODAY. The pair are many things, and together the most amazing Marvel Team-Up. MARVEL PRESENTS: MOON GIRL & DEVIL DINOSAUR!

CHRIS: How could you not want to read a comic book with a title like this? I didn’t even need to read the solicitation to know I wanted to pick this one up. Once I did, that just sealed the deal.

    GEORGE: It’s got Devil Dinosaur.

    OTGW_cover4OVER THE GARDEN WALL #4 of 4
    Writer: Pat McHale
    Artist: Jim Campbell

Publisher: BOOM! Studios

Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Before the woodsman was busy chasing after the beast, he lived in the woods with his daughter. The day she disappeared was when the woodsman’s journey began.

WAYNE: I would have preferred that this book come out before Halloween, but I’ll enjoy it now as well! If you saw the Cartoon Network show, you’ll love this comic, which fills in several of the spaces in between the show’s sequences! Can’t wait to see what happens!

    ringside1RINGSIDE #1
    Writer: Joe Keatinge
    Art By: Nick Barber
    Art By: Simon Gough
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: THE PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING EPIC BEGINS IN AN OVER-SIZED FIRST ISSUE! RINGSIDE is an ongoing series set within the world of professional wrestling, written by JOE KEATINGE (SHUTTER, GLORY, TECH JACKET) and drawn by acclaimed illustrator NICK BARBER, combining the ensemble drama of THE WALKING DEAD with interconnected rotating perspectives akin to The Wire. Each issue will explore the relationship between art and industry from the view of the wrestlers themselves, the creatives they work with, the suits in charge and the fans cheering them all on. But that’s just the beginning. The real violence is outside the ring.

GEORGE: I’ve been wondering why there isn’t a high profile wrestling comic for years. The two interests have tons of similar elements – high drama, visual flair, morality tales. I have high-flying hopes for this one

RODRIGO: Wait… a comic that’s actually taking a serious look at professional wrestling? That’s pretty fresh and interesting, actually.

STEPHEN: More than I thought it would be, and for fans of wrestling, noir, and revenge flicks will want to check this out.

    silk1SILK #1
    Writer: Robbie Thompson
    Cover Artist: Dave Johnson
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: Cindy Moon exploded out of her bunker and into the Marvel Universe when we first learned that she had been bitten by that same radioactive spider in the first arc of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. She then went on to save Peter Parker’s life (more than once!) and traverse the Spider-verse alongside Spider-Woman. Now, as SILK, Cindy is on her own in New York City, searching for her past, defining her own future, and webbing up wrong-doers along the way! Robbie Thompson (writer from TV’s Supernatural) fills this new ongoing series with his unique blend of antics and feels. Featuring stunning covers by Eisner Award winner Dave Johnson and interiors by future superstar Stacey Lee.

MATTHEW: I wasn’t sold on Silk initially (the “perfect woman locked in a box for Spider-Man to find later” bit was really creepy to me), but her solo adventures have been interesting, and she’s made some really dumb decisions that have made for good drama, so I want to know where this is going…

RODRIGO: I’ve only been tangentially aware of all the spider-peeps that have been appearing lately. Maybe this is a good time to dive in.

sins of wreckers_coverTRANSFORMERS SINS OF THE WRECKERS #1
    Writer: Nick Roche
    Artist: Nick Roche
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: THE WRECKERS RETURN! Somebody’s kidnapped PROWL! – but does anybody want him back? A lifetime of messing with everybody’s lives comes around to haunt him. Fortunately, he’s always got a plan. In this case, the one team of brutal, broken heroes – the WRECKERS!

CHRIS: Last Stand of the Wreckers is such a classic in many Transformers eyes, certainly in mine. Out of all the comics releasing this week, this is the one I’m looking forward to most. Considering all the violence and death that was in the last story, I’m a little scared of this one. Plus, knowing the Wreckers, there are a lot of sins to go around.
