aforce2A-FORCE #2
Writer: G. Willow Wilson & Margueritie Bennett
Artist: Jorge Molina
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: With monsters appearing on the utopian island of Arcadia and threatening its inhabitants, She-Hulk and her team of Avengers set out to discover the source. But when they stumble upon a conspiracy that reaches far beyond Arcadia, She-Hulk may just find herself on the wrong side of the law!

MATTHEW: This series had a killer first issue, and given that it’s going to continue after Secret Wars, with a pretty cool cast and writers that I enjoy, I’m totally looking forward to more A-Force…

ROB: The ladies of A-Force have provided for an interesting team, and if my suspicions are correct this should be a fairly important book throughout the Secret Wars.

barbwireBARB WIRE #1

Writer: Chris Warner
Artist: Pat Oliffe
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Nail-hard tough and drop-dead gorgeous, Barb Wire is the baddest bounty hunter on the mean streets of Steel Harbor, where gangsters can lift bulldozers and leap rusting factories in a single bound. The hunting is stupid good and the bounties are hella big—if Barb lives long enough to collect!

MATTHEW: It’s odd to think that a new Barb Wire series could be the hot new thing of 2015, but I’m pretty excited to see what this one has in store…

STEPHEN: I’ll check this out, only because it HAS to be better than the original series. There’s something about Barb running around collecting bounties while trying to keep Steel Harbor from falling apart that is very appealing.

bizarro2BIZARRO #2
Writer: Heath Corson
Artist: Gustavo Duarte
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: It am a good day to die! Bizarro and Jimmy am all that stand in the way of world destruction!

MATTHEW: The miniseries was really entertaining, the show is excellent. What’s not to like?

Writer: Frank J. Barbiere
Artist: Christopher Peterson
Publisher: BOOM! Studios

Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: With the world falling apart around her, Elena finds one of the government-issued suicide kits and is torn between ending her life and fighting for one last chance to reconnect with her family.

WAYNE: This excellent sci-fi miniseries explores what happens to those left behind when the Earth is nearly completely evacuated. It’s not pretty, but it is a great read! Highly recommended!

Bunker12coverBUNKER #12
Writer: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Artist: Joe Infurnari
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $3.99
A strange new romance blossoms, one that might doom the friends and bring on the future apocalypse. Plus, the cure is within reach. Can Daniel and Natasha actually be able to save the world?

ASHLEY: I’ve loved this series from the first issue. The further Fialkov takes us into the future as it intertwines with the past and the more we learn about Grady and what happened to Billy the more enraptured I become with this world.

WAYNE: This amazing title just keeps getting better and better. Can’t wait to see what Mr. Fialkov and company have in store for us this time!

Writer: Kalman Andrasofszky
Artist: Kalman Andrasofszky
Publisher: Chapter House Publishing, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Oilsands are burning! Captain Canuck must fight his way through the inferno to find out what has turned the workers into zombified puppets, while getting the survivors out alive and uninfected. Across the country, Canuck’s brother, Michael Evans is tested on whether he can put loyalty, to his brother and to Equilibrium, before an opportunity for revenge.

WAYNE: I don’t know why I enjoy heroes from other countries, like Alpha Flight, but I do! I read some of this hero’s books way back in the first go-round, and I’m really liking what I see this time as well! Great stuff!

chew50pickoftheweekCHEW #50
Writer: John Layman
Artist: Rob Guillory
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: The landmark issue #50, and the showdown everyone’s been waiting for.

ROB: Chew is still the most interesting book coming out month after month, and the twists that Layman has thrown in the last two arcs have been phenomenal.

STEPHEN: Better see what this book is all about. 50 sounds like a good jumping on point, right?

Writer: Skottie Young
Artist: Skottie Young
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • Our heroes may be little, but boy are they fierce! The land of Marville brings you the best of Marvel as they face-off in a battle of the fittest, in a slightly smaller package. • Super-powered dodgeball, high-tech hideouts and eye-puns a plenty, Marvel’s most adorable heroes aren’t pulling any punches in this larger-than-life, fun-size adventure.

ROB: Who doesn’t like a fun, light-hearted comic? I think this may be my favorite part of Secret Wars so far just because of the goofy nature and zero need to take this at all seriously. Just sit back and enjoy.

Groot_2_coverGROOT #2
Writer: Jeff Loveness
Artist: Brian Kesinger
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: STRANDED, and without anyone who can understand what’s coming out of his mouth, it’s Groot vs The Cosmos in a trek to get his best friend back!
Featuring a special guest star who’s REALLY OUTTA THIS WORLD!
Groot may look intimidating, but, trust us, he’s all bark!

CHRIS: Who would have thought a talking tree could become such a popular character and get his own book? I liked the first issue way more than I expected so I’m quite excited about this one. Hopefully with Rocket out of the picture Groot can really take center stage. Such a funny and enjoyable comic for all readers.

HelpUsGreatWarrior_005_A_MainHELP US! GREAT WARRIOR #5
Writer/Artist: Madeline Flores

Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Leo’s past as Samson the Great is revealed, and Great Warrior must restore trust in her fellow heroes after her biggest secret gets out. Demons are everywhere, and they’re looking for her!

ASHLEY: If you are looking for classic comic strip storytelling set-up/joke format for an all-ages audience this is the best book for it! Plus, fantasy epic! Jokes!

Onyx_01-pr-1ONYX #1
Writer: Chris Ryall
Artist: Gabriel Rodriguez
Publisher: IDW
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: From deepest space comes the cyborg warrior Onyx… but has she come to Earth in its time of dire need to save it or to end it? A star-born knight for a new generation takes flight here!

ASHLEY: Gabriel Rodriguez did a lot of stunning work on Locke & Key, so I’m going to check out Onyx based on that alone. Excited to begin a new series!

Secret_Wars_4_coverSECRET WARS #4
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Esad Ribic
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99

CHRIS: Jonathan Hickman is writing one heck of a story in Secret Wars, one that may be too smart for its own good. At times I’m enthralled with what is happening and others thoroughly confused. Maybe it’s not that smart and I’m just stupid. Either way, I’m loving God Doom and can’t wait to see his reaction to an alive Reed Richards.

GEORGE: After a long long run of bad mega-event crossovers, Marvel has impressed me with Secret Wars. Much more fun and interesting than the build-up suggested, the execution of a Battleworld with Doom as God-Emperor is Hickman at his best. With such wonderful conceits as an all-Thor police force and Johnny Storm turned into a literal sun, Secret Wars is full of the strangeness that makes comics good, and I’m glad to have a mega-event that is delivering for once.

westandguardWE STAND ON GUARD #1
Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
Artist: Steve Skroce
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $2.99n
SOLICITATION: SAGA writer BRIAN K. VAUGHAN teams with artistic legend and MATRIX storyboard artist STEVE SKROCE for an action-packed military thriller that will have everyone talking. 100 years from now, a heroic band of Canadian civilians must defend their homeland from invasion…by the United States of America! The hyper-detailed combat between badass freedom fighters and giant f***ing robots begins with a spectacular 40-PAGE FIRST ISSUE for the regular price of just $2.99!

GEORGE: Brian K. Vaughan, mecha, and invasions of Canada. I love all those things, of course I’m getting this.

wicked12WICKED & DIVINE #12
Writer: Kieron Gillen
Artist: Jamie McKelvie & Various
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: The aftershocks from the Fandemonium apocalypse are tearing the gods apart. Join us for a new arc of guest artists working alongside Team WicDiv, starting with KATE BROWN (Young Avengers).

GEORGE: The fallout from the bombshell dropped in issue #11 is going to be huge. The next arc is structured so that each issue focuses on a different god from the pantheon with a different guest artist, with Kate Brown handling Inanna on this one. Inanna is one of Gillen’s most interesting creations and the response to the past issue’s cliffhanger will be fascinating.

That is our list, what are YOU looking forward to this week?
