    Major Spoilers Staff Picks

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJune 17, 20153 Mins Read

    IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY!

    But what to read?

Fortunately, the Major Spoilers Staff have comic book recommendations for you!

    archiepredatorpickoftheweekARCHIE VS PREDATOR #3
    Writer: Alex de Campi
    Artist: Fernado Ruiz, Rich Koslowski
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Predator has tallied his first kills from the ranks of the Riverdale gang! Can they turn the tables without Riverdale becoming a smoking ruin—and without getting detention?

MATTHEW: Reggie’s dead, is Jughead next? This series has been surprising in a number of ways, next up is the Sharknado!

STEPHEN: Yeah… this series is good. Silly fun where you see your favorite Archie characters die… AGAIN!

    blkca_cv1_1_25_varBLACK CANARY #1
    Writer: Brenden Fletcher
    Artist: Annie Wu
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Dinah Lance hits the road! After years as a soldier and vigilante, the LAST place Dinah saw herself is on stage…but she’s quickly learning she’d die to protect the gang of misfits she’s fallen into. And she just might have to – for some reason, the newly rechristened band Black Canary seems to be a magnet for trouble…and Dinah’s not gonna believe it when she finds out the reason why!

MATTHEW: I’m not a fan of the new “soldier/killer/vigilante” take on Black Canary in the New 52, but I’m 100% on board with this one. Fingers crossed that we get a new era of Canary cool out of it.

    doctorfateDOCTOR FATE #1
    Writer: Paul Levitz
    Artist: Sonny Liew
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: You thought global warming was bad? Anubis, the Egyptian Lord of Dead, is preparing the flood to wash the world away. Standing in his way? An overwhelmed Brooklyn med student who’s been handed the helmet of Fate, without an instruction manual.

STEPHEN: I fell face first into the strange world of Doctor Fate during the late 1980s run, and it blew my mind that there were heroes running around doing magic on the strange scary level. Doctor Fate has had a few other mini-series that may have worked or may not have worked depending on which side of the fence you were standing on, but there is something about seeing the golden helmet and medallion that gets me excited.

    doctorwhoDOCTOR WHO 9TH #2
    Writer: Cavan Scott
    Artist: Blair Shedd
    Publisher: Titan Comics
    Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Don’t miss the second thrilling installment of Weapons Of Past Destruction – an all-new miniseries adventure featuring the Ninth Doctor – as played by Christopher Eccleston – along with fan-favorite companions Rose and Jack!

Get dragged into the Time Vortex as the Doctor and his friends uncover time-lost Gallifreyan super-weapons being sold on the black market!

Who are the cosmically-empowered Lect and Unon – and can the Doctor help stop an all-new Time War before it starts?!

MATTHEW: Well, it’s not the most attractive cover ever, but I’m all for more of the off-beat, under-appreciated 9th Doctor, even if it’s a limited series…
