The Martian was self-published in 2011 by Andy Weir, and then re-released in 2014 after Crown Publishing picked up the rights.
The story follows an American astronaut, Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon), as he becomes stranded alone on Mars and must improvise in order to survive. Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian is scheduled to arrive in November 2015.
