One of my personal heroes of 3D Printing is James Bruton, a UK hobiest who has been using his 3D printers to build everything from R6 units, and life-size Hulk Buster costumes. He is currently in the middle of three builds, but surprised many of us today by releasing a nearly complete BB-8 Droid from Star Wars Episode VII.

I am very interested to see if his design comes off and runs and smoothly as the actual practical droid we saw at Star Wars Celebration this week.

Can’t wait to see if James succeeds on this or not. If he does, he’s created a BB-8 Droid for less than $500 in parts and printing supplies. I’m also hopeful he will share the plans for this droid online like he did with his current R6 droid.
