TRADE WAITERS: February 2015 Collected Editions

Ashley Victoria RobinsonBy Ashley Victoria RobinsonFebruary 3, 20155 Mins Read

Times are tough and comics can be expensive! We here at Major Spoilers understand that and we know that many people are trade waiters. We want to help you make the most informed buying decision concerning collected editions.

Still haven’t bought a gift for Valentine’s Day? Looking for something for that special someone? We have some inspiring suggestions for readers this month. This is what we all had to say:

    JASON’S PICK spidey
Spider-Man 2099 Classic Volume 3 The Fall Of The Hammer TP
    Writers:
    Peter David and Various
    Artists: Various
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Price: $34.99
    In Stores: February 4th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“Nothing could be more romantic than Marvel finally republishing this great series about a Spider-Man of the future! Finally, you and your sweetie can enjoy the great Peter David’s tales by the fire. There’s a reason Marvel brought this character back! It’s because these stories were some of the best Spider-man stories of the 1990s, and they didn’t even star Peter Parker.” – Jason

    ASHLEY’S PICKindex
    Madame Frankenstein TP
    Writer:
    Jamie S. Rich
    Artist: Megan Levens
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Price: $16.99
    In Stores: February 25th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“Madame Frankenstein brilliantly illustrates that love can create and achieve great feats and also spark emotions that will tear it apart. This black and white series is a stunningly beautiful take on Mary Shelley’s classic science fiction tale that deals with the repercussion of hubris. It’s everything an Image comic should be – super smart and awesome to look at!” – Ashley

    WAYNE’S PICKEQTPB2
The Complete Elfquest Vol. 2 TP
    Writers:
    Wendy and Richard PIni
    Artist: Wendy Pini
    Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
    Price: $24.99
    In Stores: February 4th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“Romance! Action! Adventure! Drama! Elfquest has always had it all along with some excellent surprises along the way. Engage both your sweetie’s heart and mind with this volume – and give them Volume 1 if they don’t already have it as well!” – Wayne

    MATTHEW’S PICKst
Stark Trek Harlan Ellison’s City on the Edge of Forever HC
    Writers:
Harlan Ellison, Scott Tipton and David Tipton
    Artist: J.K Woodward
    Publisher: IDW Publishing
    Price: $24.99
    In Stores: February 4th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“It’s a universal story, one we’ve all experienced a time or two… ‘Boy meets girl, boy explains that his Asian friend had a rice picker accident, boy falls in love with girl, boy discovers girl is fated to die, girl falls in front of truck, boy gets the hell out of the 1930s.’ This version of the all-too-common tale features Harlan Ellison’s original script treatment, so you can feel the sting of doomed love while wondering if Harlan really did have it right the first time (although I do miss the Vaseline-smeared close-ups of young Joan Collins.) It’s also quite affordable for a hardcover, which makes it a perfect way to tell your other half that you’d hate to have to let him or her get squashed by heavy freight.

    Because romance!” – Matthew

    CHRIS’ PICKsex
Sex Criminals Volume 2 Two Worlds One Cop TP
    Writer:
    Matt Fraction
    Artist: Chip Zdarsky
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Price: $14.99
    In Stores: February 25th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“Valentine’s is coming up and there isn’t a more perfect gift you could give your lover than this comic. Well, there probably is but this is right up there. It’s got a touching love story, brilliant art and, of course, sex. Nothing says I love you more than a comic with time stopping orgasms, sex toys and kegel face. Come to think of it, this might not be a great idea. Buy them something else and keep this one for yourself … sicko.”    – Chris

    GEORGE’S PICK 51xR2zuRYVL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_
Secret Six, Volume 1: Villains United TP

    Writer: Gail Simone
    Artists: Various
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Price: $19.99
    In Stores: February 11th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“The Secret Six trades have been out of print for some time, much to the chagrin of my pining heart. Some of DC’s greatest, strangest relationships blossom in these very pages. Ragdoll and a Parademon! Witness Bane’s awkward attempts at dating! And the great twists and turns of Scandal Savage and Knockout’s relationship, which leads them to the very depths of Hell itself. It’s as wonderful and heartfelt as a series about bad guys and outcasts could be, and it’s good that Secret Six is getting the reprinting it deserves.” – George

    STEPHEN’S PICKsupes
Superman: Earth One Vol. 3 HC
    Writer:
    J. Michael Straczynski
    Artist: Adrian Syaf
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Price: $22.99
    In Stores: February 4th, 2015
    ORDER ON AMAZON
“There’s definitely no love between Superman and the Luthors, but seeing how youngish Clark Kent is going to handle dealing with super intelligent and ruthless villains that aren’t from outer space, or have powers beyond those of normal man is going to be interesting to read. There are a lot of trade paperbacks coming out in February, but Superman: Earth One Vol. 3 is one of the few that is original (not a reprinting), and follows the model I’ve been proposing for years – tell a complete story in one volume, and release it annually.  I’m putting this on my list of books to pick up this month, and you should, too!” – Stephen
