Danny Rand/Iron Fist is one of those heroes just about to break through into Marvel’s upper-tier characters.
And he’s got his best chance in recent years to attain that status with Iron Fist: The Living Weapon!
IRON FIST: THE LIVING WEAPON #2
Writer/Artist/Colorist: Kaare Andrews
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
Previously in IRON FIST: THE LIVING WEAPON: “K’UN LUN under attack! Danny Rand returns to the aid of his adopted home, but will he make it in time? Also, more of the secret origin of Iron Fist.”
IRON FIST IS A PERFECT COMICS CHARACTER
Sometimes some of us fans and even comics creators forget that the books are a visual medium. If it doesn’t look good, it’s tough to keep readers engaged very long.
But Iron Fist is someone like us, from “our” world but who has gone elsewhere to receive the powers he needs to accomplish his goals.
Hey, I’d be glad to experience that!
He’s also an action hero. Yes, he does have dramatic moments, but he fights dragons, villains and other kinds of foes galore. I love the variety!
ANDREWS MAKES THE HERO BREATHE AND POP OFF THE PAGE
I have to say that I was very impressed when I found out that Mr. Andrews creates so much of this comic. He produces the script, the art and the colors. If he’d only letter each issue, he’d get the entire thing done by himself!
Sometimes, it’s not a good idea to have one person juggling so many duties on a comic. However, Mr. Andrews handles it all effortlessly, making Danny a “real” person with motives we can all relate to. Then his art literally makes me forget I’m reading a comic. Instead, I feel like I dived into one of those great movies where the effects compliment the story instead of distracting from it.
Since he’s also providing the colors, I have to say how much I enjoy the vibrancy he puts into each page. When we need bold colors, they’re visible. When we need a more subdued experience, he delivers as well.
Iron Fist: The Living Weapon is reminiscent of the classic comics I’ve loved in the past few decades. The perfect marriage of story and art makes this book a stand-out in today’s marketplace.
DANNY RAND, THE PERSON
With a tragic origin, Danny takes a very distinct look at life and sees things as his experience has taught him to view them.
For a real action hero who can even knock down dragons successfully, I really feel for Danny. He has serious trouble relating to “real” life, even when hooking up with a gorgeous lady. Things happen, of course, but he doesn’t connect like many of us do, and that gets an emotional reaction in me.
Like the best characters, I expect to see him grow over the next several months. I’m really anxious to see just how that will take place!
BOTTOM LINE: Wow, what a comic!
I truly believe that Marvel’s doing the right thing by giving individual characters a chance to shine as Iron Fist is getting. Let’s face it – Hawkeye has been a great success, so not every book needs to be a team book!
If you need any more convincing, just check out the book’s subtitle: “When offered life, he chose death!”
If you haven’t picked up the first and second issues, now’s the perfect time to do it! You’ll get in on the ground floor with what I consider one of the best comics you could choose! I highly encourage you to either buy it digitally or at your local comics shop! You won’t be disappointed!
