Major Spoilers Question Of The Day: Olympic Events Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonJanuary 25, 20144 Comments1 Min Read

Back in the 70s, the Olympic games took place every four years, with both Winter and Summer games occurring the same year.  This made for a much longer buildup to the games, as well as more time for spinoff/ripoff/homage-type material such as Hanna Barbera’s Laff-A-Lympics (which, given my aversion to sports, was actually more my speed.)  The most interesting part of the team breakdowns for the L-A-L came when you realized that Scooby-Doo’s team consisted of four super-heroes, an all-powerful genie and a living car, which left them seemingly over-powered against the teams of talking animals and ineffectual villains.  With the 2014 Winter Olympics ceremonies fast approaching, this line of thought does beg an unusual query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still hasn’t gotten used to the ‘every two years’ scheduling, asking: What four fictional characters would you pick for the perfect bobsled team?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

The Flash, Quicksilver, Juggernaut and Darice Bannock.

Flash/Quicksilver for the speed, juggernaut for momentum and as brakeman. Darice Bannock as the driver because Cool Runnings is awesome.

The Thing in front, for weight and being a great pilot.
The Schmoo to assist with steering. (catching wind, etc…)
Star Boy to change density as needed.
Ms. Marvel for strength and speed to begin.

The Tick, G’nort, Howard the Duck and Angel in his puppet form from “Smile Time”. I have no reasoning behind these choices other than I think it would be amusing.

The Doctor is his own bobsled team. He’s also able to outpace all of the opposing teams..from the previous Olympics.
