Major Spoilers Question Of The Day: Winter Is Here Again, Oh Lord Edition

    Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonOctober 9, 2013Updated:October 9, 20135 Comments1 Min Read

The weather in Kansas has turned cool, leading people to declare that it’s winter already and begin the yearly ritual of denouncing theories of climate change because winter on the plains tends to be cold.  Here at Stately Spoilers Manor West, we’ve already begun discussing when to begin using the furnace and figuring holiday flight plans, without once saying farewell to the season that ‘s on its way out.  This lamentable condition, in turn, begs a query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) agrees with renowned philosopher Barnabus Stinson that we need to at least briefly mourn the end of bikini and sundress weather, but will concede shirtless firemen and biking shorts for the sake of balance, asking: What will you miss the most about the rapidly-receding Pop Culture Summer Of ’13?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

My chance to get a SDCC Green/White Ranger Legend Morpher for under $300.

I’m going to miss Gokaiger. Although the series itself ended already, there was still the obligatory VS movie with the most recently ended series team and the current series team, and then there was Super Hero Taisen Z (Super Sentai x Kamen Rider x Metal Heroes!!!). But soon enough it’ll be so long until MAYBE the next multi-team or multi-franchise movie.

I’m also going to miss bikini season until next year.

I’ll think of more later, but as today is my birthday, I’d rather not think sad thoughts and instead focus on the happy, like the new SHIELD series and the hat my girlfriend made for me (a kitty ears hat with the Dekaranger “SPD” logo).

Girls in Bikinis, not that that is specifically a 2013 thing.

Though not officially over, the final season of How I Met Your Mother. Doctor Who, which we no longer have a set release for the new season.

Pacific Rim, especially since Grown Ups 2 of all friggin things beat it at the box office.

I regret not going to any of the comic cons here in Vancouver. Next year! My wife was ridiculously pregnant and ready to pop, so I missed two events because I didn’t want to be away.
