VIDEO: The CW Network launches CW Seed

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherAugust 16, 20133 Mins Read

    Press Release

CW Seed, the digital-only studio of The CW Network, launched today with all-new episodes of four web series, including the third season of the critically-acclaimed hit comedy HUSBANDS, and the premiere episodes of the new digital comedies BACKPACKERS, GALLERY MALLORY and THE P.E.T. SQUAD FILES.

The award-winning comedy HUSBANDS is now exclusively available on CW Seed, and this season it welcomes guest star Amy Acker (“Much Ado About Nothing,” “Person of Interest”) to its first installment, entitled “I Do Over.”  Tabloid darling Cheeks (Creator and Executive Producer Brad Bell), and star athlete Brady (Sean Hemeon) are preparing to re-do the “I do”s they neglected during their first accidental drunken wedding, when Acker shows up as Claudia, Brady’s ex-fiancee-with-an-agenda.  Additional guest appearances include Seth Green (“Robot Chicken,” “Family Guy”), Michael Hogan (“Teen Wolf,” “Battlestar Galactica”), Beth Grant (“As I Lay Dying,” “Donnie Darko”), and Deb Theaker (“Best in Show”). HUSBANDS is created and executive produced by Brad Bell and Jane Espenson (“Once Upon A Time,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”).

In an attempt to get over a serious case of cold feet, BACKPACKERS finds recently engaged Ryan (Noah Reid, “Titanic”) and Beth (Meghan Heffern, “Almost Heroes”) embarking on separate European adventures leading up to their wedding. While traveling they are free to act single, adopting the mantra “what happens in Europe, stays in Europe.” But hours into his adventure with his party animal and womanizing best friend Brandon (Dillon Casey, “Nikita”), Ryan realizes he’s made a huge mistake and sets off in search of Beth. One problem…  He has no idea where she could be. BACKPACKERS was created by Jay Bennett, Daniel Dales, and Jarrett Sherman. The Executive Producers are Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Shane Kinnear, Tom Mazza, and Maggie Murphy. BACKPACKERS is produced with the participation of Canada Media Fund, The CW Television Network and Bell Media Inc.

THE P.E.T. SQUAD FILES, created by and starring John Dale and Michael Hobert, follows the misadventures of a ragtag group of ex-community college students, in search of paranormal and extraterrestrial activity. Led by Spencer (Dale) and Courtney (Hobert), the P.E.T. Squad is filming their forays into the world of ghost-hunting, in the hopes of one day landing their own reality TV series. But while Courtney is dead serious in his hunt for the undead, Spencer is only seriously dying to be famous. BACKPACKERS is from executive producers Russ Cundiff, Milo Ventimiglia, John Dale, and Michael Hobert.

GALLERY MALLORY is an animated comedy starring the over-educated and bitterly under-employed Mallory, a stylish, acerbic twenty-something doing the bare minimum working at a Soho art gallery, and the real-life celebrities she encounters. Guest voices this season include NBA star Chris Bosh; Misha Collins (“Supernatural”); Whitney Port (“The Hills,” “The City”); talk show host Maury Povich; and Kat Graham (“The Vampire Diaries”). GALLERY MALLORY is executive produced by Brad Roth and Mark Feldstein of Stun Creative, an LA-based advertising agency/production company whose previous digital credits include “The Single Life” (Conde Nast/Glamour.com), “Jen & Barb Mom Life” (Specific Media), “The Writers Room” (Crackle/Sony) and “Obamourage” (Atom). Roth and Feldstein also won the 2013 Webby for Best Writing for their digital series, “Presidential Clippings.”

More digital series, including LA RANGERS, from “Hart of Dixie” star and “Stupid Hype” creator and star Wilson Bethel, will debut later this fall, with premiere dates to be announced at a later date.
