Major Spoilers Question Of The Day: Only Tangentially About The Apocalypse Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonDecember 20, 201214 Comments1 Min Read

It wasn’t all that long ago that some folks were up in arms about the young lady who managed to make herself look like an anime princess through the clever use of makeup.  For my part, I thought she was pretty ingenious in her work, but found the proportions of her eyes in a real-world setting to be incredibly uncomfortable to look at.  Of course, when you think about it, the sight of Iron Man in line at Starbucks would be equally strange, and an encounter with someone like the Joker or (perish forbid) Spongebob Squarepants in real life would probably send even the hardiest soul running for the fire-axe and a locked room…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still thinks that ‘Cars’ takes place in the future, after all the humans are somehow destroyed, leaving their essences to embody the machines that defined them, asking: What character or characters would be the most visually disturbing to encounter in real life?”

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Google the term ‘real life cartoon character’ and you will have enough nightmare fuel to power Detroit for a century…

Beavis and Butthead are plausibly disturbing…

Any and all giant spiders would top my list–Aragog, Shelob, Marvel’s Tarantula after he mutated.

And MODOK would rate pretty high, too.

There were a real life Burt and Earnie. Sit down and watch It’s a Wonderful Life. Burt was the Cop and Earnie was the taxi driver. Sesame Street stole the names from that duo in the film. I think Homer Simpson would be really freaky to meet in real life. Or Elvis, but only because he’s been dead for 35 years.

Ursula from “The Little Mermaid” and the further mutated spider-like Spider-Man (because I am seriously afraid of spiders, although I love Spidey, go figure). There are also a large number of GL alien characters (including some of the other color corps members) that would be seriously freaky in real life.

There was a show when I was younger called “Megas XLR” in that, there was a character called Magnanimus, who is basically a little tater-tot head with arms and legs…. That in real like would probably freak me out
