MOVIES: Crossbones to appear in Captain America (and Cobie Smulders too)

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherOctober 29, 20123 Comments2 Mins Read

As Captain America: The Winter Soldier shapes up to go before the lens, H’wood has revealed one of the villains in the flick, and some returning heroes, too.

First, there are members of the Avengers set to appear in the flick, including Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, and Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow.  Of course Chris Evans is returning to the role as Captain America, and yes, Sebastian Stan appears as Bucky Barnes – you really couldn’t have The Winter Soldier without him.

On the bad guy front, Variety has announced that Frank Grillo (End of Watch), will appear as Crossbones, a henchman of the Red Skull.

A key villain in Captain America’s rogues gallery, character debuted in 1989 as Brock Rumlow, a leader of the Savage Crims gang in New York’s lower East Side before joining a school for criminals and later becoming a henchman of the Red Skull under the code name Crossbones.

Since we are seeing SHIELD agents all over the place, and considering what needed to occur to get Bucky to turn into the Winter Soldier, expect most of the movie to take place during modern times, though a ton of flashback revealing Bucky’s turn to the Winter Soldier, and his relationship with Black Widow to get some exposure as well.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are writing the script, with Anthony and Joe Russo directing.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 4, 2014.  Sign me up for opening night tickets, please.
