BCC’12: Vertigo creators headed to Baltimore convention

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseSeptember 3, 2012No Comments4 Mins Read

    Press Release

Talented creators from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint will be in attendance at this year’s Baltimore Comic-Con. The show, which will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center, will take place the weekend of September 8-9, 2012. Joining the growing list of guests are Mark Buckingham, Garth Ennis, Jeff Lemire, Scott Snyder, and Chrissie Zullo.

Mark Buckingham, who is best-known and most-celebrated for his work on the long-running Vertigo title Fables, began his career in 1990 working with Neil Gaiman on Miracleman from Eclipse Comics. Working on such titles as 2000 AD, Hellblazer, and Shade, the Changing Man, he became a mainstay at DC Comics after taking over art duties on Fables with issue #6. His run on Fables has earned him four Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003, Best Serialized Story in 2005 and 2006, and Best Artist/Penciler/Inker in 2007.

Garth Ennis broke into the American Comic scene in 1991, taking over the writing reins on Hellblazer. After a successful four-year run, Ennis moved on to create Preacher, a 66-issue epic that ran from 1995 -2000. In addition to these two ground-breaking series, he also had lengthy runs on DC’s The Demon and Hitman. Most recently, Ennis is preparing to wrap-up The Boys, a 72-issue story which began at DC’s Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment with issue #7.

Jeff Lemire made a name for himself after producing the Eisner and Harvey-nominated Essex County trilogy from Top Shelf Productions. In 2009, he wrote and drew The Nobody, a 144-page graphic novel published by DC’s Vertigo imprint. Currently, in addition to writing Justice League Dark and Animal Man for DC’s New 52, Lemire also is the writer/artist on Sweet Tooth, a monthly Vertigo series which began in 2009.

Scott Snyder made a huge impact on the comic industry last year with his ground-breaking work on the Harvey Award-winning Vertigo title, American Vampire. In addition to American Vampire (and it’s current spin-off mini-series, Lord of Nightmares), Snyder is also writing both Batman and Swamp Thing, and will be co-writing the upcoming series Talon, which spins off directly from his critically acclaimed “Court of Owls” storyline from Batman.

After being recognized by an editor at the DC Talent Search at San Diego Comic-Con 2008, Chrissie Zullo was offered the job of providing covers to the Fables spin-off mini-series, Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love. With a style that has been compared to that of Tara McPherson, Zullo quickly developed a strong fan following and she followed up with covers to the sequel, Cinderella: Fables are Forever, as well as interior pencils for both Madame Xanadu #26 and Fables #100.

“We pride ourselves on being a show that caters to every type fan, including those fans of the mature reader books published by Vertigo,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Comics are for both kids and adults, and these folks help produce some of the best books geared toward an older audience. We’re delighted to have Mark, Garth, Jeff, Scott, and Chrissie attending the show this year!”
